Title: NFL 2017-2018
Post by: pcr3 on September 07, 2017, 11:30:35 PM
Figured I'd start this. The oft-discussed undefeated season for the defending champs is not going well at the moment.

So my Packers looked interesting. Our D looked mean, and that has been the weakest part of our entire team for the past 5-6 seasons. Rodgers had some flaws, and the offense looked a little lame... that's kind of par for the course against that insanity that is the Seahawks D. Pretty excited for next Sunday's christening of the Falcons new digs.

Unreal ending. The final "last play" netted me some points in my matchup against zimbra, but I guess we have another thread for that discussion. That was an entertaining game to watch.

I'd actually prefer that. Who wants to go to Minneapolis in February anyway? I'll prob hold out for our inevitable run through Hotlanta > Miami > LA.

Seriously though, I know it's probably painful for you, but this team is really good.

I've watched that play about 10 times since. James clearly lost control of the ball when it hit the ground. That's the rule - that's how they call it.
Then the Pats get a pick. I thought Ben was gonna spike and kick a FG to tie.

great interview with Belichik. Gotta love the guy

Quote
The New England Patriots signed Pittsburgh Steelers franchise sack leader James Harrison on Tuesday. With Bill Belichick meeting the media Wednesday morning, inquiries into the acquisition were obvious.

While it wasn't at "On to Cincinnati" level, Belichick clearly had no interest in providing insight into how the Patriots plan to use the 39-year-old defender.

Below is a transcript of the back-and-forth:

How would you describe James Harrison's playing style?

"He's played outside linebacker for the Steelers. We'll see how it goes."

Is there carryover from what they asked him to do and what he could do for your team?

"Yeah, I don't know. We'll start working with him and see how it goes."

What are your thoughts on his career?

"Good."

How much of a factor did his experience in big games play a role in the decision to sign him?

"Yeah, we can't control any of that."

You guys have a lot of experience playing against him. Is the process different when bringing in a guy like that as opposed to someone with less experience?

"Every player is different."

Do you put any stock into the fact that he could provide valuable intelligence given his familiarity with the Steelers and their system?

"Well, we're playing the Jets this week. I don't really know what that has to do with it. Maybe I'm missing something. I don't know."

What about looking ahead to any possible matchups in the playoffs?

"Well, we play the Jets this week."

Good job, good effort, Boston Media.

It became clear the winner of the Saint/Vikings game was getting to the Super Bowl.  It also became clear Brees was the only man left who could come close to hanging with Brady.  While the end of that game was extremely exciting, unfortunately it basically handed the Patriots another title.

Same.  The last 2 minutes of regulation....wow.

I had a laugh thinking about all of the whining the Chiefs fans/players did after the Pats won the coin toss in OT in the AFC championship game two years ago and scored a TD to win without the Chiefs (and more importantly, PAT MAHOMES) getting to touch the ball in OT.  They all seemed happy with the rule last night...

Epic games for sure.  Jeers to Buffalo's Defense late and in OT.  Its mind blowing that they left Kelce wide open on a few plays.  Also the Bills seemed to lack urgency defensively, appearing to miss more and more tackles as the game went on.  In short, your defense sucks Buffalo!

All the complaints about the NFL OT is legit mind bottling, it's always been sudden death and they've made it better with the TD rule. Have these whiners never seen an NFL OT game before?

Both teams should get the ball in OT.

I like the concept of Team A scored a TD in 6 plays, Team B has to score a TD in 6 plays or they lose.

Both defences were shot and couldn't stop either team, the coin flip determined the winner.

Yeah Bills get the ball back and score and then Chiefs get the ball back and score again, same outcome and good chance of someone getting injured, don't see the point in that.

this - that touchback was the game-losing decision. The kickoff should have landed on the 5-yard line so it had to be played and time taken off the clock.

What does that abbreviate to, by the way?  Three syllables is way too many for the fanbase of a sports franchise to utter.  Even two syllables is cutting it close.

They'd probably pronounce it (in unison) Come-Anders. As long as they don't go the Workaholics route and put a hard 'an' at the beginning of the second part.
