Poll
Question:
Which show do you like better
Option 1: Dick's FYF
votes: 30
Option 2: MPP TweezerFest
votes: 12
Topical poll!
that would be 8/31/12 for you n00bz
Not even close for me. FYF in a landslide. After relistening, I'm really struggling to get the hype for last night.
ETA: +k to mattstick for breaking his own 24 hr rule.
This is like one of those exit polls they do on voting day.
Lulz
3.0? Last night smoked Bomb Factory. :-)

If I had to choose a show to have been in attendance?
FYF

pretty sure there are people that need to give dick's a re-listen
FYF easily. Last night was good, but nothing epcot. That Fall '10 Tweezer with the Have Mercy -> jam in it is much better imo.
I know it's early but I'm surprised by the results so far
Yeah, last night's second set was fun... there was a really interesting segment of Tweezer jam to be sure... but I wouldn't put anything from last night above some of the other big jams and surprises of 3.0...
the FYF show is just so good start to finish it gets my vote.
More appropriate poll would be MPP Tweezerfest vs. Tahoe Tweezer. Do you want out-there jamming or weaving of songs and segues?

i love the weaving of songs and segues which is why I liked last night.
Tahoe Tweezer is damn good too though.
As for the actual poll, I voted for FYF. It was a better overall show when looking at the full show and not just the highlights.

did the same.
It would be interesting to know when folks last listened to that 2012 Dick's show.
I couldn't even tell you what year the FYF show happened. I had to look it up, then I read the post-show thread (less knee-jerk hate than in last night's, more gumbo). Now I'm re-listening to the show despite not really wanting to do so. (I said some favorable things two years ago so I want to confirm or refute those opinions.)

Same, I voted FYF but have now busted out the Dicks 2012 webcast. We'll see if she holds.
Team Hood versions of FYF Sets:
Set 1:

Set 2:

While it has several solid performances (Undermind, jam after Farmhouse), the FYF show did not blow me away upon revisitation. Returning to last night...
last night was fun however certainly not poll worthy. abstains.

agreed.
I still go back to the tahoe tweezer
in a month (if not earlier) there is nothing from last night that I will go back for
I'm too hyped on last night to make a fair decision right now.
Both great Phish, though!
I voted FYF because I think the improv was better overall that night.
However, I'm pretty sure I had more fun last night than at the Dick's show. It was just a awesome show top to bottom with great flow, which is something you can't say for many 3.0 shows.
They're both great phish shows but for completely differnt reasons. I'd rank them both towards the very top of 3.0.

No love for the "We love Dicks" vocal jam out of YEM? That almost made me smile as much as last night's Fish antics.

Eh, it's ok.
I think that this show, when it happened was a bigger deal because the amount of improv was far less common than what we've seen on this Summer tour.
Others above have made the key point, however. These two shows are very different.
Personally, I would prefer to have been at last nights show.
I do like that post-Farmhouse action.
I voted for FYF.
The novelty plus extended jamming in BOTH sets was huge for the time.
I listened to last night's second set twice today.
I like it and it does remind me of Bomb Factory in that each song segment is short.
Not perfect transitions, but they were going for it and they pulled it off well considering.
This set actually reminds me a lot of the Led Zep segment in AC more than anything else.

Was actually thinking earlier today that the Zep show was the only other time that matched the energy of last night's show. It was wild.
That's cool.
As far as 3.0 FUN goes, that LZ segment was up there for me.

that was actually one of the most fun nights I had seeing music.
blackjack after the show, not so fun.
FYF for me.
The second set last night was certainly 'best of' material for this tour, and while some of the segues were smooth, very little of the other songs got expressed (reminded me of another july 94 show - Big Birch). Simple comes to mind here. Back On The Train too. Very cool concept, would have gone apeshit had I been there, but FYF from beginning to end is of more interest to me than last night.
The Tweezer segment between Back On the Train and Waiting All Night is very, very good.
Regardless of personal taste, I think the main thing to take away from this thread is that both shows are top contenders for "best overall show of 3.0"
Prefer the extended jamming over song fest.

I agree.
I had always regarded Dicks '12 as my favorite 3.0 run but last night gave it a run for it's money.
I still think Dicks was better overall musically, yet MPP had something special to it. I would say it was more of a "had to be there" show, though.

I'm tindering.
I'm disgusted.
I thought this was a tough call and then I realized that, thinking back on other top shows, I prefer the jam-heavy ones to the seguefest ones, so FYF it is.
Amid this lengthy piece, one might find some relevancy to this thread:

All the comparisons led me to revisit Bomb Factory for the first time in a while. May I please have some of that crack when you guys are done with it?

I was thinking about revisiting that set actually the other day. Never did give any of that weekend a re-listen...might be about time.
I voted FYF
I like the improv in that Jim, CDT, Carini, and Undermind.
both got a nice YEM in the first set.
MPP show I thought had more energy and the crowd was really into it.
Dicks crowd was still into it but not as much as on sunday.
But I also group that Dicks 12 run as the best Phish run I have seen.
I think the transitions are better at MPP than they were for the AC 2010 show.
Both great sets shows, but Dick's by a mile, no contest.

And when they bust into Emotional Rescue.

I hadn't revisited it in a while until this poll popped up. Upon relistening, I still really dig it. I think you're right that the level of playing may have been somewhat overstated given the significance at the time (I'd argue that holds true for MPP2 also), but overall, I think its easily one of, if not the only, complete shows from top to bottom.
It's also still the only 3.0 show I have listened to from start to finish more than once. So there's that.
It would have been crazy if they'd used "Also Sprach Zarathustra" instead of "Alaska" for the A.
