A little heavy on official releases, I went to make this up only to find my primary GD HD had crapped the bed. I've about exhausted bt.etree trying to get shows back, but may need to use shnflac.net. Is this still invite only? I had an account there once, but I'm sure it is purged....

shnflac not invite only.  I have everything on FLAC, official and otherwise, with most updates sources.  If you want to send me a drive I will copy it for you.  Fully organized and tagged.

...Sure.  The GD folder is 3.5TB and the Garcia is .5TB so you'll need to send a 5TB but if interested, just let me know!

That's a favorite of mine.  I wish instead of putting out the night before as a Dave's Picks they put out the whole run as a box set.  Or at least put the DS Dew on Dave's as filler

Yeah I gave the whole show a listen the day you posted slim but am just now going back to that DS > MD.
What a transition into Dew and that bomb Phil drops into the refrain is just sublime.

Just saw John K. with Melvin Seals JGB incarnation. They were awesome. Won't miss them anytime they come around - they're that be good. Prefer them over most touring GD clones. Only reservation being, on some occasions, they play one long set instead of set breaking. The show we just caught was two, which was $$.

I saw them in 2007 with John K and it was incredible but it was a one set performance.

I interviewed John K a fews years back. Serious fan and scholar of the music.

My favorite "Darkstar" show was billed as "Terrapin Nation." Basically, it was a DSO show but focused on JGB material. John K. played fiddle for a few tunes. They absolutely slayed me with an all-time-great Dear Prudence. Even after a bunch of DSO shows, it was really that night that showed me exactly how impressive JK is.

Having read the above interview, I should add that when I met & talked to John K it was before a GGW show. The whole band was in on the interview and it was kind of a trip. Then GGW were outstanding.

PIE-GUY

So, I clicked the youtube link for JK's first show that was part of the RS interview and now I'm listening to 4/11/89 and not totally hating it... and I usually hate post-70's Dead. Helps that it's a great-sounding SBD.

A couple of first set notes:

  • I hate both Little Red Rooster and Victim or the Crime. They are both terrible showcases for the bad side of Bobby.
  • First time hearing We Can Run and I actually didn't hate it.
  • Stuck Inside of Mobile is a great Bobby tune - he is redeemed.
  • Deal is a great set-closer, always.

Will report back if I have set 2 thoughts... but I may get distracted and not finish it.
