Dang, shit is hitting the fan with the quickness in this show.

I mean I knew it was going to be dark, but wow, this is shaping up to be brutal.

Also, Jeffrey Wright is the man, perfect role for him.

Badass story line here. It's like the Matrix meets Terminator meets the Wild West...on acid... or something.

Episode 2 really amped it up a bit!

It's reminding me of Ready Player One slightly also.

Loved ep2.

As for Ready Player One, only the maze thing makes me think of that...
Can't wait to see if they botch the film.

That and him referring to it all as a game are the two elements that brought up Ready Player One.

Caught the first episode Saturday night and the movie just happened to be on syfy right after.  Watching the two back to back was interesting to say the least.

I feel like the show is definitely going to be a mindfuck.

Also, Dolores is so hot..

I recognized her name as "the chick that dated Marilyn Manson", but i had never seen her in anything before. I'd agree she is indeed hot.

Not a "hot" movie by any means, but she was in a film called Thirteen that is pretty intense.

Watched the first two episodes last night and I'm loving it. So many things about this to ponder and both the park and outside world to consider. i have a nuts and bolts question that maybe someone here can answer...

If the hosts can harm each other with their weapons, how is ur that the visitors are safe from them? By at mechanism are they protected from the same bullets that harm the hosts?
Title: Re: Westworld
Post by: rowjimmy on October 11, 2016, 10:42:40 PM
The guns detect some component in the hosts that allows the projectile to fly.

No signal, no bullet.

You should check it out if you're able to.  It was actually a decent movie.

Plus, It is always fun to see how people imagined the future 40+ years ago.

Also, maybe spoiler in this article?  It is a cool theory even though I kind of can't see it being true.  I guess I just thought the man in black was a host too (The gunslinger from the movie)?

Ed is definitely a people (they say as much in the second episode). I did click the link to see if it had the same idea I had come up with, and it was the same thing that I was thinking. Makes me even more sure I was right about my theory.

This show is pretty fantastic, probably my favorite Ed Harris role in the past 15 yrs easy.  Maybe since the Abyss, but that's just my personal opinion.  Also great to see McPoyle shown in a different light.   :hereitisyousentimentalbastard

So, I got caught up on this over the last few days.  So many questions!  I assume some of the mysteries of the park itself will be kinda/sorta answered by season's end.  Like, for example, is the park some kind of hybrid of VR and a real, flesh-and-blood park?  Maybe I missed a few obvious hints as I only watched them once and binged through them all pretty quickly.  The mystery about Arnold is very intriguing as well, as is the whole maze thing and whatever this grand story is that Hopkins is working on.

Other random thoughts:  It's good to see Jeffrey Wright in something again (I loved his character in Boardwalk Empire).  Ed Harris as the Man in Black was a fantastic choice.  I agree that he's definitely a people, but he also could be trouble down the road (I loved when he straight up threatened to murder that other guest for thanking him for his foundations' role in saving his sister's life!   :hereitisyousentimentalbastard).  And, yes, Evan Rachel Wood is hot as hell!

RE: Man in Black

What I'm not getting is why he is so obsessed with figuring out "what's going on"..

Hopefully the show will shed more light on that

Some very speculative spoilers here - but don't read if you don't want to analyze too much about what else may come this season...

Anyone else picking up on the hints that
Bernard is a host
?  There are some random things that kind of add up - like,
Ford saying he had a sensitive disposition
, and that
his meetings with Delores seem to take place in some sort of time or location where she thinks she is in a dream - or at least, says she thinks that - and it pretty clearly looks like a basement setting, not the main area of the labs or Westworld itself
.  He is also
very in-tune with those new reveries and other very minute changes in host behavior/dialogue
, possibly recognizing differences
in his own programming from those around him
.  I've seen the discussions on Reddit about it, but it makes a lot of sense to me if that's one of the big revelations this season.

also, for more white hat>black hat
Say William falls so in love with a host (Deloris) and trys to "free" her while shes rebelling, only to fail over and over again. Edit: now granted these last few are merely theories of buddies of mine and myself but still.

The
three timelimes theory has been around a while and is I fully agree. The Bernard is an anagram for Arnols is new to me, but I've been thinking that Bernard is a host that Arnold figured out how to put his mind inside and he's just pretending like Ford still controls him

. Lawrence immediately showing back up as El Lazo in the William story would support that theory.  [/spolier]

Honestly, that doesn't mean much to me in regards to that theory.  He just got cleaned up and dropped back into his loop, IMO...
and in that same scene Deloris sees another copy of herself walking through the crowd.
I think that was more
Delores short-circuiting
than anything having to do with the
multiple time frames.
What interests me more is that
the room used by Bernard to do his interviews with Delores, where she's clothed, seems to be the exact same room where the climax of the last episode took place - there are some stills floating around that show it as pretty much identical.  Whether this means that those scenes were in fact Arnold interviewing her, and not Bernard, remains to be seen, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on in terms of proving the "Bernarold" theory.
OK so the whole
multiple-timeframes theory
may actually be true... SO many hints this week!  Beyond Delores just exclaiming
"WHEN AM I??"
, I think there is just a ton of evidence pointing that way, especially with the
host who MiB is surprised was not retired.  FYI, that's the same blonde who is in the town dancing scene in this episode as well as the earlier flashback scene when Ford was first describing the early days of the park to Bernarnold, and she was also the one who first welcomed William to Westworld when he got off the train and offered teh sex, and guns
.  So, while she may have been repurposed for Ford's "new narrative," it seems like there are
multiple timeframes happening here.  Then, Delores just having either a meltdown or flashback to various times with people there, then gone, then back, could mean that she is just remember an earlier loop, while being triggered by something happening in the present.  It's all very confusing, but lends credence to a lot of what people had speculated, and which I had pretty much dismissed up until now.
The absolute greatest thing I just read, which lends even further credence to this theory, is that the
producers are geeks, and if MiB is really William, his current traveling companion means that they are both on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure...
Holy crap!  What a great episode.
Never doubt an anagram that's just too perfect to be coincidental!
Can't wait for the finale.  Still so many questions!

Really loving how this show is turning out to be a showcase for Jeffrey Wright, such an amazingly talented actor.

That episode brought so many of my questions about my theories to an end. I now believe that I've been right all along and I feel wonderful.

If you think this is going to have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention...

Yeah, there will be no happy ending. I just feel wonderful for figuring out some of the mysteries ahead of time. Its the same feeling I get when I solve a complicated puzzle.

Finished the show tonight. Good call by whoever's responsible for many of those theories up there.

I have to admit my interest in this show began to flag after a few episodes, and it only picked back up a little. All the (seemingly) disparate storylines that didn't seem to be going anywhere had me caring less and less, to the point where by the time they brought everything together for the big finish I was partly checked out. Also, I found that much of the show was simply obtuse for the sake of it, which hindered my ability to really feel like my keeping rapt attention would be paid off in the end.

Not a bad show, had some interesting little philosophical nuggets, but I can't say I rank this very highly against other great TV I've seen in my life.

So that first episode answered some of our old questions, but now there's a huge new can of worms waiting to be opened!!!
Does anyone else thing that the Bernard host is now in a different simulation and the Delos team around him are other hosts that Delos is using to get the info they want from Bernard?

Also, Deloris is a fuckin' bad-ass now!
I think your theory is wack.
they're trying to get answers because it's it a long crazy couple weeks and, over the course of this season, we'll get to see what went down.

The more I thought about it at work today I started to think "what if Delores knows she'll never get out of the park and managed to transfer her consciousness to the Bernard host since everyone thinks he's a real person
It feels like watching Lost all over again with the way my mind races with theories.
