I'll be rolling in late Thursday as well, let's try and coordinate so we can roll in together
Coordination should mean meeting up in Ithaca for the Jauntee show Thursday night and rolling in from there. Just saying.
That sounds like a good idea to me. I'm picking up my buddy Tait in Cleveland, his flight lands on Thursday at 4:30, then we are heading east and could presumably get to Ithica by 10pm
Funds are tight but I'll probably find my way up there one way or another...

Updates on the Ball
http://phish.com/news/updates-from-the-field-magnaball/
QuoteJEMP RECORDS STORE & RIFT VINYL RELEASE
The JEMP Records Store will return to Magnaball and will feature a vast array of vinyl releases from the band's catalog from years past including repressings of The White Tape, Junta, Lawn Boy and A Picture of Nectar and side project pressings. Original pressings of Phish's first live box set, New Year's Eve 1995, will also be available. The store will be equipped with vinyl listening stations and copies to pick up, open, read, feel and smell (they mostly smell waxy).
In addition (and the part we're most excited for), the JEMP Records Store will also feature an exclusive, brand new Phish vinyl release. Yep, that's right. Phish's 1993 album Rift will be available for the first time on vinyl at Magnaball. The festival version will be pressed on 180-gram water-blue vinyl and is packaged with a Limited Edition screen print (a Rift continuation) by David Welker.
The remainder of the limited run of "Rift" will be made available at Phish Dry Goods and in Stores (this won't be on blue vinyl, however) in the middle of September.
MAGNAWATER PROGRAM
In an effort to reduce waste, Magnaball will have several water options available. Free water will be offered in many locations around the campgrounds and festival grounds. In addition we will have a filtered water option at two locations in the festival grounds; if you bring your own bottle (please, no glass, camelback or other personal hydration systems) it can be filled with cold, filtered water for $1 per filling (32 oz max). That $1 will be donated to the WaterWheel Foundation.
We will also be offering Magnaball Nalgene Bottles for sale at our merchandise stands and several other locations. If you purchase one of the bottles, you will receive free refills from any water station, including potable filtered water, for the entire weekend. Proceeds from the sale of the bottles will benefit The WaterWheel Foundation and REVERB.
BEN & JERRY'S
Ben & Jerry's will be on site with their "Save Our Swirled" activation, dishing out free samples of Phish Food and Save Our Swirled and recruiting climate activists. While you're enjoying your ice cream... sign the Avaaz "100% Clean" petition, joining Ben & Jerry's and millions of citizens from around the world who are calling on leaders of the developed nations to tackle climate change at the upcoming United Nations summit in Paris. The goal is for international leaders to work towards 100% Clean Energy by 2050. Visit benjerrys.com/climate for more information.
WIN A MAGNABUG
The folks at HippieShop.com have created a custom vehicle which will be raffled off at Magnaball. On deck will be a pristine 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible, inspired by Phish's Rift album. The vehicle has been donated to The WaterWheel Foundation as the grand prize for the Magnaball Charity Raffle. The proceeds will benefit many local non-profits in each community that Phish visits while on tour. Your $20 (6 for $100) donation will enter you in the drawing for a chance to win this one-of-a-kind piece.
Some info about the car: the classic Beetle looks and drives like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The rumble of it's air-cooled, four-cylinder, fuel-injected, overhead cam engine. World famous airbrush artist Javier Soto will recreate Welker's album cover art on the front end of this beauty. A custom painted WaterWheel logo was added on the rear engine cover, custom emblems, chrome wheels and all four members of Phish have autographed the glove box door.

Watch as fans battle it out identifying a Phish song just by a few notes. Can tell the difference between Bowie and Maze in a split second?
Would def be down to try that out and not to mention all these sick VT breweries
QuoteYears of marketing research and focus groups have revealed that Phish fans, given a choice of a wide variety of beverage options, often choose a fermented concoction made from cereal grains. Were excited to be bringing a few of the best Vermont breweries to Magnaball as well as the return of a few friends from further afield.
Located in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, Hill Farmstead Brewery will be on hand and will have their Citra Pale Ale and Mary, a German-style Pilsner. Lawson's Finest Liquids will be joining us form Warren, Vermont and will have two brews on top, the Sip of Sunshine IPA and Super Session #2 ale. Brooklyn's Sixpoint Brewery will be featuring the Bengali IPA and you can also find their Crisp Pilz lager as well. Of note is the return of Sierra Nevada 's FOAM, a special pilsner brewed specially for Phish. True fact: After Festival 8, FOAM went on to win the Gold Medal at the 2010 World Beer Championship as the world's best Pilsner. It sold out in a hurry at its debut. They'll also have their classic Pale Ale and Hop Hunter on hand.
Hill Farmstead and Lawson Liquids are legit. Jeeezus, this weekend keeps sounding better and better. :frustrated:

Gonna be honest, I'm PUMPED UP for some FTA.
given the fact that they put the storage jam from superball on livebait 11, can we assume they sold a shit load of magnaball tickets in just the last 2 months?
is this a result of...
-fare the well shows
-phish playing better this tour
-the slacker mentality of phish fans planning ahead for tickets to a phish festival

I would assume these two.
Phish has been killing it. I cant believe Saturday Dicks is sold out now too 3 weeks before the show!! That never happened before and would usually only sell out like the day before when everyone rushes the box office the friday before the show.
Also the fact they only had 4 mid-atlantic/NE dates this tour a lot of the NE head prob just grabbed some mann and magnaball tickets and only planned on hitting those this tour.

QuotePhish festival at WGI sold out
Phish's three-day festival this weekend at Watkins Glen International is sold out, the band recently announced.
By Derrick Ek
ek@the-leader.com
Posted Aug. 17, 2015 at 4:15 PM
WATKINS GLEN | Phish's three-day festival this weekend at Watkins Glen International is sold out, the band recently announced.
The campgrounds open Thursday and Phish fans from all over the U.S. are expected to begin arriving at WGI. The event, called Magnaball, will feature two sets of music by Phish on Friday evening, three sets on Saturday, and two sets on Sunday evening.
The Schuyler County race track draws crowds of more than 90,000 for NASCAR, and Schuyler County issued a permit for Phish with a cap of 60,000.
However, the band's management decided to cap ticket sales at 30,000, Schuyler County Administrator Tim O'Hearn said.
"The county permit has a 60,000 cap but I don't think they are able to meet health department regs in laying out camping for more than 30K," O'Hearn said in an email.
Although the show is sold out, the band will offer a live, pay-per-view webcast at livephish.com.
Also, Phish will offer a free radio broadcast of the shows, which will be carried by a local station, WNGZ 104.9, as well as Sirius XM's Jam On. The radio broadcast can also be streamed from livephish.com.
Phish has staged nine multi-day festivals with camping since 1996 in upstate New York, Maine, Florida, Vermont and California.
The last one, called Superball IX, was hosted by WGI in July 2011. It drew about 30,000 fans, and was the first major concert WGI had hosted since 1973's Summer Jam, which drew an overwhelming crowd estimated at 600,000 for concerts by The Grateful Dead, The Band and The Allman Brothers Band.
Yeah saw someone else post about how there weren't enough porta potties available in the area due to another event so the amount they could obtain they had to cap it at 30k people
Quote from: emayPhishyMD on August 19, 2015, 11:02:36 AM
Yeah saw someone else post about how there weren't enough porta potties available in the area due to another event so the amount they could obtain they had to cap it at 30k people
and for that reason, makes me think any chance of a re-re is pretty much nil
so in 2011, they sold approx 30,000 tickets to 3 nights at watkins. they also sold tickets to shows like:
3 nights in bethel
2 nights in holmdel
great woods
darien lake
camden
2 nights at mpp
in 2015, they sold approx 30,000 tickets to 3 nights at watkins. they also sold tickets to shows like:
2 nights in philly
2 nights at mpp
it seems to me somewhere someone screwed up. they could have done a lot more in the northeast this summer, if they were just going to cap it at 30,000 again. the question is did they cap it at 30,000 because that's what the presale numbers made it look like attendance was gong to be? if everyone who wanted to go bought tickets in advance, would they have pushed it to 35,000 or 40,000?
it really is shaping up to be a special weekend for those in attendance. true phish fashion...you snooze you lose.
Yeah looks special.
I think they person that was in charge of having the festival comply with health code standards, wrongly assumed he would be able to obtain all the waste management and porta potty needs for the weekend and then could not obtain them all for whatever reason. So they were forced to move the 60k to 30k. So yeah someone did fuck up, and I am sure management is kicking themselves now for not booking more NE dates.
I think Watkins in 2011 was even more thatn 30k it was like 33-34k if I remember correctly.
So they had their health code stuff lined up then...I dont think they want to cap it at 30k on purpose, someone fucked up with getting the necessary things they needed to make it bigger.

QuoteUPDATED: 08/15/2015
According to ticketing sites, Phish’s 2015 Magnaball Festival at Watkins Glen is completely sold out. While we can’t confirm, what we heard is the cap was set at 50,000 Phishheads.
take it with a grain of salt.
I think they hadn't sold many tix as of a month ago and that's when they decided to cap it rather than invest in more infrastructure.
Which makes sense because they can't count on selling 10k tix at the gate, although apparently that's how many people couldn't figure out how to pull the trigger beforehand.

Watkins Glen gears up for 30,000 Phish fans
When thousands of fans of the popular jam band Phish show up in Watkins Glen this weekend, the community will be ready.
Officials have a better idea what to expect this time around, as it will be the second visit by Phish to Watkins Glen International.
The band made its first Watkins Glen appearance in July 2011, and people who still remember the pandemonium of the 1973 Summer Jam — when 600,000 music fans flooded into the region — were understandably nervous.
But the first concert, dubbed Super Ball IX, went fairly smoothly, Schuyler County Sheriff William Yessman said.
About 30,000 fans are expected at the racetrack for the latest show, "Magnaball," and law enforcement will be ready, Yessman said.
There will be no special traffic changes this time as there were for the recent NASCAR weekend, he said.
But there will be a heavy police presence.
"We run this very similar to NASCAR, with hundreds of shifts throughout the five days we are there," Yessman said. "We'll have undercover officers during the event. The main issue is drugs that come in. We expect to see nitrous oxide. It's a big thing at these events. In 2011, we confiscated over 120 tanks.
"Last time we confiscated ketamine, a horse tranquilizer," he said. "Another issue is 'misting.' People will come around with spray bottles offering to cool people off. Some of them have LSD mixed with water, which is absorbed through the skin."
Since most of the fans will be camping at the track, the biggest potential concern is for severe weather, Yessman said.
Fortunately, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures through the weekend.
Watkins Glen International reported earlier this week the event is sold out. The campground will open to fans at noon Thursday. The festival is scheduled Friday through Sunday with cleanup Monday.
As with other major events hosting by WGI, track officials expect Magnaball will provide a big boost to the local economy.
"You want to see people taking advantage of everything that the region has to offer. Local hotels, restaurants, and shops all benefit when there is increased visitor traffic in the area," said Chris Banker, Watkins Glen International manager of public relations.
"With the band recently announcing a sell-out of tickets, we'll have a good crowd at Watkins Glen International for the second time in three weekends," Banker said. "I know there are a lot of people from all over that have been looking forward to it."

I'm sorry, but not having a ticket for this event is the definition of noob. I feel bad for people that didn't get on it, but I don't. For some reason I feel bad for Superfreaky, but everyone else is an idiot.

You guys realize that SF will be there, right? There is no way he was shut out of this. I'm guessing he's looking out for some stragglers who don't want to miss his wedding.

I think Randall's Island was around 25-30k last year. That was totally manageable crowd wise, if this is similar with more amenities it should be pretty awesome.

Anyone else hear they are selling 1 ticket per car at the gate?
My friend said a security guard sold them a wristband for 200 bucks.
I don't think it was a "offiicial" transaction.

So the first set today is scheduled for 3 pm. I assume they'll have an extra long break and then come back at the usual 7:30-45 time for set two? Just trying to plan my day around couch obligations.
