Phish are going back to Mexico! The return of Phish: Riviera Maya, a 4-night all-inclusive concert vacation, will take place on January 13-15, 2017. The band will perform three nights on the beach in one of the world’s most beautiful spots – Mexico’s Caribbean coastline. The concerts will take place at Barceló Maya Beach, which sits on a mile-long stretch of white sandy beach.

Fans can stay at the host resort or at one of the other six selected hotel-resorts (including three additional properties for this year). For those not staying at the Barceló Maya Beach, shuttle service will be provided. A variety of off-site adventures will also be available.

Packages for Phish: Riviera Maya will go on sale April 19 at 1PM ET. For complete details, including payment plans, visit http://www.phishrivieramaya.com.

Interesting timing to announce this before Fall Tour.

Sweet.

Interesting timing to announce this before Fall Tour.

First (and one of the few legitimate) gripes about this year was how short a lead time folks had.
This si a bit more on par with other events of this nature, I think.

Happy to see this news; a little caught off guard by how quickly it came.

They've added some more resorts but I wonder if they plan on making the show capacity much larger.

As hard as tickets were the first time, my fear is they'll be even tougher this go-around since people have heard how awesome it was.

I've heard rumors of it being more in the 10k neighborhood this time.

So this should be an interesting conversation tonight with the wifey. We said we would go the next time but wasn't expecting an announcement in April. I've got Vegas in November and possibly in October if the boys are there for Halloween. Going to Florida for Christmas. Planning another vacation for the end of May for our wedding anniversary. Now gotta squeeze in the funds for this too. I really hope this is in the cards for me.

So... are people thinking this will become a regular thing?

How often do these other bands like Panic do this? Is it every year?

I guess, from the bands standpoint... There's no reason not to do it once a year? I'm sure they profit as much as any other random shows and hey, free vacation for the family in Mexico.

Well, I can't argue with that.

Also - it's seems the 'early' announcement is to please the masses that felt they announced too late last year.... But they still only give us a week to put down thousands of dollars. No payment plan? Or did I miss that?

Panic has done it every year since they started and the disco biscuits Umphreys and sts9 have been doing it for almost a decade now. And yeah you're spot on its cuz they almost sell it out every year people love t as much as jam cruise and jazzfest as another annual music fest vacation. I bet phish milks this as long as they could since I'm pretty sure this is on the larger side if not largest of these destination Mexico music events. And we all know phish will sell out every year except for maybe the presidential executive suite or whatever

Yeah it's nice they told us early but wtf still no time to actually save up and plan for this. They have a payment plan I saw it was 60% down at booking and then it's like 20 percent in May and another 20 after that

100% in this year with the lady, no questions. I did not have to solicit her in the slightest, I think she would have divorced me if I said we couldn't do it again this year.   Had some friends that stayed at the host resort and Hard Rock and I have heard very mixed reviews. Anyone care to comment on their experience? I post show shuttles to HR only took 10 or 20 minutes, the music was much better at the hard rock and overall vibe. Heard that host resort was a little more uptight, the pools are not as nice and they were serenading everybody with classical music throughout the weekend.  Hard rock sounds like a better time but staying at the host resort is a tough one to pass up.

Thought my wife said it was 60% down and then they start taking 10% starting in August and ending in Novembre before the Christmas holidays.

The shuttle to/from the Hard Rock was quick and painless. The resort itself is nice, although it didn't feel like any kind of extension of the greater event except for the abundance of heads on the property. We managed to sneak into the Barcelo one night, and with the little indoor mall and bowling alley etc. there it felt like a much better post-show scene. Also, the Barcelo has actual sand beaches whereas all I saw at Hard Rock were actual, hard, rock waterfronts.

Got it.

Is there a way to split up payment between cards or does one person have to put it all down?

Although I did not see it for myself, my wife indicated the entire purchase must be through one credit card. They must hav had a big headache last time around with people using multiple cards.

I was told they have a 3 year contract with Barcelo so....

And also, not sure if someone answered your other question, but you only need to put down a deposit next Tuesday.  I think it is 40% or something but I didn't look too closely.

Getting more and more excited the more I think about this.

I'm gonna have to eat my JamCruise deposit, but it's totally worth it.

Was really stressing about the choice for a minute but it comes down to quantity vs. quality.

5 days with a BUNCH of awesome bands VS. 3 days with the BEST BAND EVER!!!

Phish wins!

Not that I am doing either but I'd enjoy the downtime before a show (Phish) in addition to not getting pissed that I was to wiped and missed that Lettuce set or wtv (JC).

My choice is surely no slant to JC. That fest is incredible. Lots of great music.

It's more about my obsession of phish. I dunno, no other music hits me in "that place".  I could see 30 fantastically, talented bands on JC but not one of them gives me "THAT" feeling..

My choice is surely no slant to JC. That fest is incredible. Lots of great music.

It's more about my obsession of phish. I dunno, no other music hits me in "that place".  I could see 30 fantastically, talented bands on JC but not one of them gives me "THAT" feeling..

That's pretty obvious if you're gonna eat a $250 deposit for a cabin on the cruise.
Dedication.

Wish I had $5000 burning a hole in my pocket.  Made some moves to make it happen last year but I just don't see it happening this year.  It would be one thing if I had to only pay for one person, but paying for two is brutus.  Happy I have a wife that loves Phish as much as me, but makes it tough....

There's pretty much zero chance I have at going back (and by "pretty much" I mean "no fucking way"), but one piece of advice for any prospects: if you can swing that extra night, definitely do it. We didn't, and it's really my only regret. Getting on a plane back to winter (esp. in the NE) the day after the best 4 days of your life is, as my buddy said, pretty fucking grim. Sure, it's not cheap, but delaying your return to reality and basking in the sun to reflect on the entire experience would be goddamned priceless.

Yeah, I thought I'd parlay my imaginary handjob into some kink, but she just got annoyed. I mean, I go to Mexico for 4 nights, giving her some much needed quality time alone with her 3 beautiful children, and she gets annoyed at something that didn't even happen? Ungrateful bitch.

So.... I'm assuming the Barcelo Maya is the fastest to sell out?

You think it'd be a good idea to have one person shoot for that and then another person try and get a room elswehere in case?

Which one of you was the one who got on the wait list last year? VDB or Jimbo? How did that go down?

Barcelo also has the most rooms by far so you also have a good chance.  We just kept trying every kind of room we could until we finally got through on one (about 10 min after onsale time.)  I would have multiple computers trying different room types at Barcelo if that is where you want to stay.  Dreams and Fairmont rooms were still available 45 minutes after the release time so....I think Fairmont is the easiest because nobody can afford it.  I will tell you that from my experience, while it might be nice to "get away" from the scene back to a chill hotel, you REALLY want to stay at Barcelo if you can.  I am sure people that were offsite had a great time too (I know they did), but Barcelo is going 24 hours (food/alcohol) and taking a shuttle after the show to leave all of that blows.  And if you don;t have a Barcelo bracelet, they really try and get you out of there right after the show.

As far as waitlist, you just contact CID after it sells out and tell them you want on the list.  I do not know one person who was on the waitlist that did not get a call at some point and I even know people that did not get on the waitlist until November/December that got offered rooms.  If you get on it early, you are golden.

I second the gotta stay at Barcelo point. I watched the soundcheck while dancing in the ocean with a drink in my hand. Nuff said.

VDB was the wait list guy. I got in with one click because I went right for the Palace figuring the lower priced rooms would be tougher to score. Again, it's a little pricier, but it was well worth it.

If you can get Palace I think it is the way to go.  A little further from the venue but the food is better and more importantly, their piano bar is still popping off at 7AM.  I ended up having to do the walk back to "regular" Barcelo from the Palace every night at sunrise, and wished I was already in bed.  Either way though, Barcelo is the way to go, and yes, the soundchecks were probably the highlight of the run for me.  Worth the price of admission alone IMO.

I think a wait list link/form showed up on the site as soon as everything sold out. Then I'd periodically get phone calls and waited until they called back with an agreeable room.

If you are trying to do a group of four (as will be the case with us this time), it's even simpler as I think only Barcelo and Hard Rock offer those. Although it worries me since that can also mean your options dry up even faster.

I actually thought the Onsale was tomorrow and totally missed it this morning. wasn't until emay texted me hours later that I realized, and although all the nicer rooms were sold out, the cheapest ones at the Barcelo were available.

Any luck for you Todd?

I actually just got the 5 nights with our check out on Tuesday. I meant Thursday-Monday.

I think the five-night option helped sell my wife. Add a little lagniappe to the trip so it isn't strictly get fucked up + concert + sleep in + repeat (not that there's anything wrong with that).

We ended up doing the Wednesday check in over Thursday. Pros and cons to each. I liked the idea of not having to get up and get on a plane immediately after the last show -- recovery day in country -- but then having that extra day on the front end when you're fresh will be nice too. My big worry is that now I've got another day before the shows, which means I could be dragging extra ass by the time the shows come around. But I've convinced myself that maybe the way to outsmart that is to just get super hammered on Wednesday night so that you're forced to take it easy Thursday so you're back to ready mode by Friday.

Yeah we emailed last night about adding a fifth night at the host resort, we were debating staying somewhere else for a couple nights but adding the fifth night is definitely the way to go, I'm sure it will go through.

Todd, you really go for it?

I'm guessing it's a combination of things, increased venue capacity and honestly aside from people on this board I don't know a single person who went last year that is going this year.

Strange as I'm pretty sure five day package is on site are still available but I have been "waitlisted" to add my additional fifth day.

Yes, changed from 6500 to 10000 this year. Moving the stage to accommodate more people.  Plus the two added resorts. Either way, it's still going to rule.  3500 people shouldn't change too much.  Prob sold it early so that there were not too many (any) randos at Barcelo.  Last year there were a bunch of non-heads at the resort.  This year they prob turned the whole place over to freaks.

It was easy to get tickets, but some of the packages sold out in about 8 minutes.  My gf was in the room with me on her lap top and telling me that lots sold out.  I wasn't worried about it, I had a package in my cart and plenty of time left on the clock.  I did not realize there was another page to the addons, so I have an email out to see about adding a day on the front and a day on the end, also trying to figure out what I have to do to get my service dog there.

Any past attendees have recs for excersions?

I myself am more of a 'lay on the beach, relax, sip margaritas all day' type of guy.... but something tells me Michelle is going to disown me if I don't take advantage of these day trips...

Those Mayan pyramids sure have a lot of steps... zip lining sound fun though, doesn't it?

24 hour bowling alley on site with 24 hour free drinks.  That's my rec.  We went to Tulum for real for for a day.  Would have gone cave diving/snorkeling in one of the cenotes but they were polluted when we were there last year.  Wish I had gone to the Tulum turns because they are close (30 minutes).  I really wanted to go to Chicen Itza which is the sick giant pyramid, and we had a rental car but it was just too far and too crowded unless you get there before 9AM so we bagged it.  Believe me, you will be in the bowling alley until 7AM and won't wake up until 1 or 2 so start tempering her expectations right now  :-).  It's so fun, you guys will have a great time no matter what you do...

That and the Palace Bar are the two spots that go 24/7....and the walk to the Palace is brutal if you're not staying there and need to go back.  Palace is great, but far from venue.  Worth checking out at least once though.  And you won;t get sweated for not having a palace bracelet.  It was never a thing.

Alright dudes got the email from my buddy so I can add some off site activities. Whats everyone looking at?

Damn these are pricey. I thought this shit was included. I'd love to do the secret river snorkeling (120$) or would be down with the cheaper reef snorkeling (85$) anyone interested?

My buddy signed us up for the day trip to tulum (morning of the 14th - 30$) for some food and ruins, I'm leaving on Tuesday so I could do this trip solo but probably just gonna stay in the phish group trip, def wouldn't mind going twice.

Scott hit me up with your room or whatever number so we can get neighboring rooms. Anyone else that wants to be near us hit me up with your number too we'll try and get a paug hall or something

Bowling alley and the piano bar at the Palace are the only two 24 hour liquor spots.  I don't even remember there being beer in the room, but they might have some in the fridge.  Def no booze.  But trust me, you will never want for liquor or beer on this trip.  It's over the top.  Everywhere you turn, there is someone within arms reach with tequila or beer on a tray.  It's insane.  The disco has full bar but it closes at 2.  The piano bar at Palace is the best late night spot with the bar serving until it's sunny and it's a nice bar.  The bowling alley is a bowling alley.  But it works too.  The Palace is a LONG walk from reg Barcelo (maybe 1.5 miles) so it's a tough one when the night is over, but not so bad getting there.  And while people say you will need bracelets to go to Palace and all that, you really don't.  Only right after the show do they care about bracelets:  when the show is over, they really try to get everyone who is staying offsite out of there ASAP so they herd you either right into bus line or they herd you into Bracelet check to allow you back on to Barcelo property.  This is at the exit to the show pretty much, so if you are off site and trying to hang post show, it's not really an option.

Thanks for the intel.

I'm mostly a beer drinker, but a friend who's coming this time was asking questions about liquor. I'd forgotten about the piano bar scouting report.

I stayed at the Hard Rock this year but my buddy and I managed to breach the bus line defenses on the last night and spent a while inside the Barcelo. Hit the up bowling alley, casino and that general mall area. Such a great scene, which is why we knew we needed to stay on site the next time around.

Awesome.  Just like last year I'll be with a crew of 15-20 in the Fishman bathing suits on the Palace beach each day.  If you can find any of the ladies wearing the Fishman Bikini's they should be able to point you in my direction.  Just ask for Ned.

I'll be slightly more shady and elusive as the night rolls on......  8-)

Friday we are doing the snorkeling trip so probably won't be on the beach Friday.

Pretty much everyone.  Though most people I know got the nose candy down there.  The rest is a cinch to bring.  Even if you don;t bring anything yourself (and it's easy to get in with whatever), people down there have it.  Pretty sure you will not want for anything down there.  Trust me.  There is a ton of everything.  Everywhere.

When you go off the plane there is a bunch lanes and you either get a green light or a red light.  If you get a green light, which happens about 80% of the time, you just walk right though.  If you get a red light like I did, they literally unzip your back, touch the top of your clothes and tell you to have a nice day.  The last thing they want to do is stop tourists from coming in and spending money in their country.  Everyone walks right in.  Coming back in to the US is a whole different story though.  We came through Dallas and it was hectic.

Definitely jealous and happy (mostly jealous) for all you dudes going, especially the first timers. It is an experience unlike any you've ever been a part of. Last night I was packing my suitcase to go to Jersey City (ugh) for work for the week and I realized that a year ago I was packing for a much more anticipated trip. Definitely jealous and happy (mostly jealous) for all you dudes going, especially the first timers. It is an experience unlike any you've ever been a part of. Just keep reminding yourself that it's actually happening and not some unbelievable dream because I swear it doesn't feel like it could possibly be real.

You've got Jersey City instead of Mexico?
I feel pretty good about simply staying home again compared to that.

Not by choice, but yes. But I'll be home Thurs night though and ready to rage the non-existent webcast all weekend.

Y'all only have yourselves to blame.

Yeah pretty sure it did finally sell out, or at least that's what my wife told me! These next couple days at work are going to be brutal to get through. Loaded up on all kinds of random supplies today, anyone else go completely overboard trying to make their room as comfortable as possible?

I mean, there's trays of tequila floating across a sea of wooks at every waking moment. Comfort comes pretty easy down there.

Who plans on spending any substantial amount of time in their room?

Only thing I can think of is, at the Barcelo at least, the room mini bar doesn't include liquor, so if you want to have a real close stash on hand you might bring in a bottle.

Through it on a background tab and let 'er rip.
Sounds like a band is playing down the hall.

Yup, that's what I did. Although the view from dude's room wasn't that painful.

The jam took a while to get going but hit some cool places. Looking forward to tonight!
