guys you are missing the point... war is good and totally worth it!

the real problem is spending money on OUR country for "services" and "helping" our own "people"

The issue isn't as black and white as this, however much I agree with the sentiment.

That 1.162 Trillion dollars is paid to American companies which significantly positively influences our economy.  This money is what is used to pay the American soldiers and the Contractors that make equipment for those soldiers.  Those soldiers then go on to purchase other goods and services that helps fuel our consumption based economy.

Take away that money, without providing other avenues of employment, and you greatly impact our economy in a negative fashion.

I do however agree with the sentiment you express, however it's not as easily rectified as you might want it to be.

That seems like a valid argument.  I suppose column 2 needs to go, then...

now I get it.
The GOP claims tax cuts to millionaires and corporations create jobs.
There is a tax break for off shore corporations. They set up shop in another country (on our dime), create factories, and hire people.
the tax cuts DO result in job creation

in some other country.

I get what you are saying and agree on some level, but my issue is that these jobs don't have to be focused on war. We have so many problems here at home that the government could open offices for (or even privatize it, whatever), or more money could go to investments in things like NASA (I understand that they also contribute to some defence research, etc.) that could eventually do more for humanity than war ever could.

These jobs don't have to be lost entirely - they can be directed more at making this country a better place, rather than ruining a handful of them.

I guess we had forgotten this a while ago -

I completely agree, and it is rather unfortunate that we can't convince the majority of taxpayers to make major expenditures on awesome shit without the necessity of that awesome shit to be used to blow up other people.

Helping people is just code for evil socialism.

In all seriousness, I've been meditating on this small-government vs social democracy debate that we have going on now her in dc and on the cable news. what has become painfully clear to me is that the small-government, pull yourself up from your bootstraps, I got mine-get your own, mentality is just a broad attempt at institutional selfishness.

How ironic that most of the politicians holding down the platform of the selfish also claim to be christians. Bitches need to read the fucking book, I guess.

Pretty much my exact sentiment - such an absurdly hypocritical, delusional bunch

THAT right there has been my biggest argument with some of my right wing hard core christian "friends". They just don't see the hypocrisy in it at all.

The sad part about many people who fancy themselves "Christians" is that if Christ were to actually show back up today and behave as he did in the Biblical times, most of them would throw him right back up on the cross, without any shame or sense of irony.
