^ so true
Simultaneously we should fix the political system that lets just any racist billionaire with no background in politics get that close to becoming president
Thats what makes America beautiful. Anybody can run for the highest office in the land.

I feel like that was a good starting point for American politics like 300 years ago, but now just attracting fascist billionaires.

The vetting system is supposed to be the campaign wherein the educated masses reject phony baloney candidates like Trump.

Education along with an unbiased, non-commercial news media are the key to successful democracy. Ignorance is the path to tyranny.

I feel like everyone in this country should be made to watch the preachy bits from the first three episodes of Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom".

^^
yep
The media is clearly blowing it.
Several years ago - it was during one of the GWB campaigns, there was a media roundtable on one of the networks with all the major anchors and, oddly enough, Jon Stewart. They discussed the fact that a large portion of people under 30 "got the news" from the Daily Show, and basically Stewart blasted the mainstream media for not doing their jobs - covering the campaign like a sporting event rather than discussing the issues.
It is even more true today
"toss away stuff you don't need in the end
but keep what's important, and know who's your friend"
"It's a 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."

Loved The Newsroom... until I didn't any more.

The Bin Laden episode was great.
