mmm...nothing wrong with protecting what's theirs. In any case, it forces the good lot artists (eg, Bullock, Masthay) to be more creative, which is a win-win I'd say. And great lot t-shirts are great because they don't rely on "phish" written all over them. Scored my all time fav lot tees at MIA '09 -no phish logo needed on those shirts

I'm not surprised that you don't know the degree to which they protect their trademarks but I think you choice of the word "assholes" is a little over the top.
They, in fact, aren't assholes.
They simply and reasonably wish to protect their trademarks.

It's great though, I can swear in my speeches for my effective public speaking class. Its fucking awesome. I'm about use "dank nugz", in the next speech (informative speech about phish shows). not a swear, but I still wanna talk about shakedown in a speech.
A couple of my buddies got ticketed in Charleston for slinging shirts that had the main Phish logo on it. They had court dates and fines to deal with it.

Cause thats how lope made it sound. I understand the full logo though

Is that a Stout?
Dude phoned that one in.
looks like the site of yasgurs farm by the end of the run
I don't hate it. Probably wouldn't make the wall, but it's not bad, IMO. There have certainly been much worse in 3.0
It is a Stout, so that automatically makes it better than a lot of the no name garbage out there. . .
but still pretty meh IMO.
Yeah, when compared to his other stuff, the lack of detail in this is a little disappointing, but I'd bet this ends up somewhere in the top 5 official prints of the tour.
It reminds me of our Coventry shitshow, which I'd rather forget.

I like that, but I think I'd still go for the unofficial Masthay first.
Best art I've seen thus far. I'd probably actually buy this one.
i dig this PNC print, prolly not enough to buy it but its pretty sick.
does the horse on the right resembles General Grevious or is it just me haha.
i like when the posters are combined dates, especially if your hittn both!
I dig that one, if I was going I could get into buying one
I like that as well.
I sorta dig it but I don't think I like the color scheme. I'd buy it if it were <20$

As a fan of Pollock's early stuff, this sentence simply blows my mind.
I like the print, I just think it is toooo "Steampunky" and too monochromatic.

i thought about that as i wrote it, but somehow the stuff pollock has done lately is not as "busy" to me. i'm not really an art person. i never have been. i appreciate the skill i appreciate it's relevance but for me it's too subjective. i like things i like and i dont like things i dont like. i'm pretty comfortable with that.
Love the welker!

That's how all of Crosshair's prints look. It probably took him more work than you think.
What did he do last year? Albany or Utica maybe?

Utica. I like the Utica one a little bit moreso than this one. I think they don't work as posters, but as a promo material or a handbill or a logo for a website it works pretty well.
I can understand people not liking it. However, the jokes about it say more about how people don't understand the subtlelties and nuances in what it takes to make his work than it does about the work itself.
IMO of course.
Yeh I understand the theme of the print being in MI. Just not a fan prolly looks better on a pc than from my iPhone . Reminds me a lot of the Utica print. Was thAt crosshairs as well?
Yup. That was also crosshairs.

crosshair was cool 5 years ago when nobody had done a gigposter like that and everyone was amazed at how a 4 color silkscreen print could look like a photograph.
but its stale to me now. i honestly dont know how he keeps pumping out such similar imagery without getting bored.

I don't own a single Phish poster (and half lost over half my stubs) so I decided to pop into http://www.phishposterarchive.com/ to see what posters correspond to some of the shows/tours I have seen, been thinking that I might hunt a few down and decorate my music room with them. To my dismay, those posters for the shows that I caught are total ass. Pre-1994 all blow, Albany '99 and Oswego...junk, Shoreline '97 and '00 nope....., pretty much everything. The only two that I remotely like are 12-08-1995 and Polaris 2000. So......anyone one got either of these hanging on their wall? Name your price bitches! Also looking for the 1990 fall tour generic poster but it needs to have Wetlands printed on the bottom in the place where they would alternate venue names (I'm looking in your direction Caravan).

Grezca is to the Majors as that POS is to single A.

You meant Grecza is to that POS as the Majors are to Single A ball.

Your analogy was all kindsa mixed up. I fixed it for you. Grecza and the Majors aren't the contrast you were making. You were contrasting Grecza with the POS artwork. the similar contrast was the Majors and Single A ball.
Technically your analogy was correct, but in reality noone makes analogies that way, so it makes it confusing.

The standard for Phish posters is pretty low, so the Welker looks pretty good by comparison. Looking at his other recent works though, it's all pretty much the same stuff.

I WONDER HOW IT LOOKS ON ACID.
This doesn't do anything for me. I keep trying to look "through" it like one of those Magic Eye posters.
PNC still my favorite
I hated his MPP 2009 effort, but I know I'm in the minority there. This one does a little more for me, but not much. That said, it's certainly not the worst of the tour.
I'm thoroughly disappointed in Duval. He normally does fairly solid work.

I personally think they should offer these all as non limiteds for 10-15 bucks a pop.
Reserve limited editions for Pollock for one or two shows a tour. I bet they'd make more money that way.
For some reason I see that poster as bombs getting dropped on Camden. But after reading you guys calling them blimps I see that's what it is.
Wait, they're not bombs?

There was a blimp flying over the lots yesterday not sure what it said on it,
the blimp poster sold for 40 instead of 50 inside and ever vendor had some left at the end of the night. i woulda paid 20 for it, but not 40
i kinda agree that not all posters should be limited runs

It was the Farmer's Insurance zeppelin. It's been in Philly for a couple days this week before heading to Pocono Raceway for the weekend.
the mpp poster was going for $50.
I'd have paid $15.
There were a couple lot posters that I liked more.
I did not buy any.

Why do they hire these guys?
Yes, he can create an attractive poster but that poster could be used for ANY band in the world and make as much sense as it does with Phish.
There is a word for this phenomenon:
Generic.
Quote from: Ken TaylorHi people the idea behind this one was actually based on the idea of the community of people that love the music so much - i have been pretty blown away by the level of dedication you guys have to the band and it made me think of everyone living together in this tree that kind of represents the band - that and the fact that i thought i tree house would look cool - it started from me looking at log cabins and started to blossum from there. Glad most of you like it!
The "P" looks like the breast cancer ribbon.
Somewhat generic, but still cooler than some of the shite from this tour IMO.
Where have I seen that before? Hmmm....

LOL
I'm a fanboy of what, exactly?
I'm not even a poster collector but when I do buy a Phish poster I want it to have some connection to the band or the place.
And I did note that it's an attractive poster.
I believe you are a fanboy of Phish's cover of Boogie on Reggae Woman, as well as envelope filter bass in general.

I had an idea for a shirt today, wanted to see what you guys think so here goes: The Tollhouse cookies logo that says "Page's House." I have no experience doing this sort of thing but that would be the one I would do if I did (which I might if there's enough positive feedback). Anyone that has any skill in graphic design is welcome to pirate my idea because I'd probably use Microsoft Paint to make it since that's about the extent of my skillz.

Yeah but the name "hornets" is a reference to something a british general said about charlotte during the revolutionary war (something like "it's a hornet's nest of rebellion"). Charlotte cops have hornets nests on their badges.

Ames bros are literally next to my wife's office so I have a soft spot for them. Our kids play together at the park...
Didn't really love either one, but I couldn't find'em to purchase for the life of me. I did get the Pollock race cars from Waterwheel.
Scored both after waiting 3 hours in the sun. Thought I preferred Nate's smaller print but finally realized I loved the larger Ames Bros print more because it's modeled after an old stock car racing ad
While in line some dude wanted to trade a SBIX print for his NYE 2010 Taylor print -hell YES!!!! Was more than happy to give away my Duval for that Taylor print -was floating on high the rest of the day till Phish put me into orbit that evening.
Thank god I had sunscreen on before I got in line for those prints -brutal heat that day

I found most of this quite amusing, and while it does remind me of space zebras, which had me cracking up, I think it might actually be a reference to that cliff with the sculpture of the horses jumping off as your drive in to the Gorge, it's like a pull off on the side of the road picture spot. If you look into the left side, that's exactly what that place looks like.

I think I prefer the MSG from last year with the solid colors. This year's looks like it was done with crayola pencils. However, I'm sure it will look much different in person.

Ya, very cool video. I showed this to my graphic design students this semester, which is cool because I'm rockin' YEM to the class.
pretty awesome video, thats exactly how i do it to which is neat.
i draw something on paper, scan it, and then layer it to get my idea on Illustrator and go from there...i never knew thats how a lot of ppl do it.
i basically taught myself illustrator over a 3 month period just by playing around in it and watching youtube tutorials ha.
art is a great escape. thanks for posting this!
Looking forward to seeing this. Hoping it's not another Taylor.

There are rumors that there will be a different artist for the 30th, 31st. Have they ever done that before?
Looks like DKNG Studios will be selling the MSG posters in their online store starting tomorrow at a random time.
