:rockout: :phish:  :phish: :rockout:
I've been listening to last night's show straight through since I woke up this morning. I've listened to all of set 1 and 2, set 3 is just starting now.
46 Days > Backwards Down The Numberline, Tweezer > Prince Caspian
So far, this portion of the show has been killer. Great versions, great playing. Very engaging. Love it. :phish: The last few minutes of Prince Caspian, holy shit.
I just heard cities>end of set 3 but it was pungent and flavorful with hints of pine, peat, and shoe leather, with a Stoney finish.

really enjoyed the 3rd set, excellent jamming throughout. psyched to check out the late set. nice job :phish: !
4th set security issues...

Fucking incredible show.
That 4th set was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen/heard in my entire life.
Yeah phish!
tweezer > caspian was really really good
missed the blaze on, but the cities > light > 555 was really fun too
very interested to see/hear the 4th set ... those are always amazing
4th set was honestly the most psychedelic thing I've seen phish do. I've NEVER seen a visualizer quite like that.
And the jamming, man. They were fucking jamming! Such seamless flow between themes. I don't know why they don't jam like that all the time.
And don't slouch on that Blaze On! I wasn't exactly sold on that song but if they jam it like they did last night, I'm on board.

It almost sounded, to me, like the riff that turned into that weird, repeating jam started off as an accident and they just ran with it. I was highly impressed.

Definitely absolutely topped it..
4th set last night was the best phish experience of my entire life, that set was exactly why I love phish, so new, cool and unique..
Tuned in last night during Blaze On. Can't wait to go back and listen to moar of this show, and night one, as well. Back on track with them bringing the heat. Good stuff. Haven't listened to a Velvet Sea since my Coventry movie theater webcast experience, and we all know that was. Not really a fan of it anyway, and seeing them choked-up & emotional was tough to watch. Last night's version really grabbed me, in particular the guitar fills towards the end of that tune. Cathartic for me, personally.
Nice cohesive jamming for the most part, and thinking that were locked-in as all four of them playing as one. I like the cow funk, and thought they wove it in & out of some great, psychedelic jamming. The Mutron effect is cool, and I agree with the thoughts pertaining to Trey's tone sounding the best in a while. Late set seemed trippy, and I want to see the visual theme, along with the audio. Folks at this one got a real treat. Can't wait to listen to tonight's show, follow along with the entire thing. :music: :phish:
Also, thanks to all 'P4ugers on-scene, all of the reviews, and general awesomeness. Y'all rule! :wtu: :sbw: :tte:

I definitely heard some McGrupp type stuff in there, especially from Page. It was the same chords they use to get out of the piano solo. I was surprised not to see it in the show notes. if that's the jam I'm thinking of from last night, I might have them mixed up
listened to the 4th set yesterday and again this am, so good. epic Phish. really unique stuff.
I love being spoiled w/ new Phish from the Festival gigs: Soundcheck, FTA, juicy sets, epic late set, good tunes on the Bunny. It simply doesn't get any better.

Unreal. Probably my favorite Phish thing now. I can't believe how good that was. The whole thing was like a dream. We booked over to the screen right after the encore, and was so tired from raging so hard to that 2nd set. And then Phish goes and plays THAT. The first few minutes were so beautiful and gorgeous.
I hope they release video, because those images of Page were to die for, with his head all manipulated.
so pretty much just reiterating what is already said
tweezer > caspian is fire. Caspian jam peaks and slays.
Blaze on has a nice jam, but this Light jam really takes off. The patience from Trey and the rest of the band really lets the jam evolve into something else. Trey sits back and lets page and mike take the lead and it sounds great! and the transition into 555 is smooth like buttah!!!
Not a fan of WOTC closers, but whatever.
Encore is fun.
One thing Phish has consistently done is thrown their new material right in the thick of things. Prominent placements, big jams. You're made much more likely to embrace these tunes if for no other reason than they're new jam vehicles, and who doesn't love jam vehicles. Now, the regression we sometimes see (e.g. remember when Number Line used to get taken for long rides?) puzzles me, but by that point a song may be firmly embedded in the pantheon and it will continue to get called upon at potentially big times.
This, anyway, is something that occurred to me while they were crushing Blaze On the other night.

i remember lots of people being upset with a lot of summer 97 because of all the new tunes, and the new sound ... now when you look at it, it was all so raw, the funk, the vibe, the sound ... all very raw.
now look at some of those tunes... ghost in particular. jam vehicle that needs an oil change.
so careful what you wish for
Yeah.... Ghost needs a shelving for a bit. 12 minutes at a fest? Time for a break.
That, or bring back the album arrangement with the loops and the original chords. That would help accent Mike's bassline a lot.
I thought this Ghost was fine. Trey hit on something that invited the swerve into Rock and Roll; it could have been smoother and sure I prefer my jams as long as possible too, but it was fine.

Because the chompers wanna hear Trey sanggg I WHEEEEELED AROUNDDD BECAUSE IIIIIIIIII DIDNT HEAR WAT YOU HAD SAID and throw glow sticks in the air when Trey yells SUZY. They don't give a shit about transcendental improv, or having religious moments during jams.
People talked over Divided Sky on Saturday. That tells you everything.
Pretty sure the only wrong way to enjoy Phish is to get worked up over how other people enjoy Phish

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm going to laugh at it.
Ghost is a good song with or without jamming it to 22minutes. Are 22minute versions preferable? Maybe.
2012-07-01 demonstrates that they don't have to be lengthy to jam and, imo, the version from Magnaball, which we shouldn't even be discussing in this thread because it happened the first night, does some pretty cool stuff in the time they devote to it.
I thought the Atlanta Ghost from this year was perfect in terms of placement and how it hit a stride in the first set. The Raleigh Ghost is demonic enough that it is a perfect precursor to No Quarter.

This is my new sig line.
I agree that the jam in Cities sounds like Mind Left Body, but do you really think think the band consciously covers the GD jam? I tend to think it's a jam that doesn't warrant being labeled.
Similarly, the Randal's Island Night 3 has a Mind Left Body/Norwegian Wood sounding jam in Light (I think it is).

THIS
I dug the ATLversion and love the placement of it - mixing things up. And this magna version, while I'm still bummed that it was ripcorded for R & R, IMO it is still a hot version.
Assuming Gumbo didnt even listen to it? Get over the length of songs people.

Yes, behind the screen. I thought the whole drive-in movie / screen setup was pretty awesome.
Also, I don't think any of them switched instruments like they did during the Storage Jam.

Purely a matter of taste.
I like both but I'm, perhaps, more inclined to enjoy the ambient space rawk than you.
I thought all of it was awesome. It's def going to get lots of playback from me. I liked this a shit load more than the Storage Jam.
Upon re-listen, I do enjoy the spacey jam section in the beginning, and it starts going more places around 18-20 min rather than 40 min in like I previously said.
But I still like all the themes they hit in the soundcheck jam. This "jam" is great I just think it has like one major underlying theme, dark n space, which I love, but the soundcheck jam jumps through a couple different types of sounds.
This Light is fucking tremendous! I love the minimal funk groove that they get going with. One of my favorites in a summer of great jams.

Ugh, I was super bummed to miss this weekend.
That drive-in set was spectacular to watch.

My notes call it Tweezer > Fuckerpants > Tweezer. The good stuff is just more Tweezer. The Fuckerpants still sucks.
Such a great night with everyone though. Awesome weekend.

Gotcha. Yeah drive in was dope but honestly storage was the better Watkins secret. Well maybe not, I'll have to re listen.

Never seen video of the Storage Jam but I can't imagine visually it was anywhere close to the Drive-In set.
Even just musically though the Drive-In is quite a bit better for me.

Yup
Yo...Scabbard! I forgot about this tune! There's no jam, but compositionally, it ranks high among the 3.0 tunes, imo.
Great afternoon set for sure
One Mike song and two Page songs, and I guess technically Tube is a Fish song, like the way this set is spreading the love around. C
Anyone else getting super bummed out seeing a crowd of people partying in the sunshine?
And yet another Mike song!
I feel like Trey should've thrown Mike a bone and put How Many People Are You on Sigma Oasis, it's a pretty good song.
Oooooo forgot about the flag with the penis balloons - it was waving all weekend
And here's where it starts to get good
Magna, boys! One of the best weekends of my life.
Oh hellz yeah!
Solid music being played. They are very dialed in.
In the pocket!
Aaaaand fuckerpants
(Best one you ever heard tho)
And they're back!
Just a redonkulus peak, Mike going nuts on the fight bell, classic.
caspian>tweezer
sorry pg
I just finished up watching the Drive-In set. I've listened to it a few times before, but have not seen it. This made me appreciate it so much more. CK5 getting to show off in a different way was really fun. I really love the way he started using shots from behind the screen and tweaking them and overlaying them on each other. Seeing Fish wearing a ball cap was strange, the only headgear I've seen him in are a Viking helmet or a pair of goggles.
Actually, do we know if CK5 did the screen or did someone else run the video?
It was a visuals company, Moment Factory. They did some work with them before too. I think one of the Halloween sets

Not sure about before - but after that they did the big hourglass NYE gag.
watched the Drive-In set last night.
Fan-freaking-tastic.
It kind of reminded me that, oh yeah... they can still jam if they want to.... they just choose not to sometimes these days.
