Just noticing this post now, but man, what a great series! I agree that he's definitely an underrated founding father, and not only does this series open up your eyes to that, but it's wonderfully cast, written and directed. The ending was fantastic. "Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it."

Yeah i've been watching it. Started out pretty good but I think it's gone downhill with each episode. It is quasi-sketch comedy and I don't like the "annoying humor" track they been taking in a lot of scenes. There's usually a gem or two per show though.

I really enjoyed the Mumford and Sons and the Avett Bros, but i thought the Dylan part was kind of terrible. I love Dylan, but man, it just hurt to hear it.
The Mumford & Sons vs. Avett Bros on who could rock harder was pretty cool though. They both played the shit out of their songs.

Only thing worth watching so far IMO.
Agreed, and Lamb of God lost to Maiden so i can turn this off once these guys are done.
Saw that but wasn't familiar with any of the performances nominated in that category. I did see LoG open for Metallica once and they didn't really do it for me.

I'm watching "the worst movie ever made"- The Room. It's on Adult Swim for its annual April Fools joke. I remember trying to watch this movie last year before I had any idea what it was.
SO bad.

Apparently since it was so bad the guy changed it to a comedy instead of a horror which was its intended purpose.

It was never intended to be a horror, but rather a melodromatic romance. After it's release and the flood of negative reviews and all-around making fun of the movie, Tommy Wiseau (the lead actor, as well and the writer and director) said it was intended to be a dark comedy, and that the terrible plot/acting/screenplay was intentional. Severl of the actors in the movie anonymously said that was definitely not the case and that he was completely serious when he made the movie.

As for me.... I started watchin Twin Peaks on netflix instant a couple of weeks ago and have really gotten into it. Can't believe I'd never heard of that show. I'd argue that it's my favorite David Lynch work (granted i'm only 1/3 through it). So campy yet so well thought out and executed at the same time. The FBI agent cracks me up a ton too.
^^^ Never seen that either. I'm going to add it to my netflix to check it out though since there's been so much talk of it recently.

I'm behind. I've only watched the first two episodes. I'm overloaded with new movies and shows atm, so it's hard to fit everything into my schedule, not to mention with all the music I listen to every day. Boardwalk Empire
I signed up for HBO to watch Game of Thrones, which I enjoyed in many respects, but Boardwalk Empire is blowing me away. So literary - The Tin Soldier? are you kidding me? - and it has a Western feel to it given the lack of law in it.

So excited to have another season of this on the go. It's probably the only show that I will not miss.
Last episode was a bit lackluster but this season is shaping up to be serious bus.

Holy fuck. End of season 2. W.T.F.
What a smart show. Can't wait for more.
been watching G4s playback of the entire seriess of LOST and HEROES.
4 episodes of each on monday and then tuesday.
been really enjoying both.
for Lost, i had stopped watching after a few years so i wanted to see how it all ended up.
for Heroes, i missed like the first year and half, so i'm catching the early stuff.
been totally great.
4 episodes in one night is just about the way i like to watch episodic shows.
i know Lost really sorta pittered out, but man it really was intense for awhile.
Heroes however just drives me nuts how insanely AWESOME the 1st season or 2 was, but then it completely shit the bed.
Also, after seeing a cameo of Stan Lee in Heroes i started wondering if i remembered him being involved with the show.
After finally seeing the whole story i have to say a TON of it bears serious resemblance to a lot of classic X Men books...

It sucks.
The rest of the movie sucks, but I'll watch the last scene from 8 Mile every single time.
My girlfriend started watching Sons of Anarchy last month on Netflix and loved the shit out of it.... When I finished up Madmen she begged, pleaded, and blew me until I started watching SOA. (maybe a bit of an exaggeration  ) The show has a cool concept, its about a gun-running NO-Cal motorcycle club. It's not a realistic show but some of the characters are entertaining (IE. the hot surgeon girlfriend & various pornstars) but the dialogue is absolutely horrible. The storyline isn't even good either due to it being so far from realistic that it's hard to not make fun of it while watching it. However, I cannot stop watching this damn show ! It's like "Netflix Crack"...
So now I've wasted about 40 hours of my life in the past month or so and the only positive thing about it is she's happy and stops asking me about it. I hate the show but could not ever justify stopping it. If you need a new show to watch, try it out but go in with the idea that it sucks. Pure entertainment purposes, definitely no Shakespearian Breaking Bad type show.
The theme song is the cheesiest thing I've ever witnessed.

Veep on HBO.
One of the few shows I am aware of where not a word of dialogue goes wasted. I've watched a few of these episodes several times, and continue to pick up new bits of dialogue or new meanings.
Looking forward to the next season.
k, so last night i finally finished watching all of LOST back to back.
so, can someone now explain to me WTF? lol.
seriously, i soorta followed the 'wrap up' of what really was occuring the whole time, but i'm still pretty confused.
::spoiler alert::
so, the part im trying to figure out is basically the very end where jacks dad gives him his little speech about the whole thing being about jack being dead etcetc.
now, without getting too involved on all the metphors and metaphysics or whatev, i just didnt catch (and couldnt rewind cause it was tv)-- 'when' jack supposedly died for starters.
--was it the plane crash? and if it was, were the other characters doing the same thing as jack, or was everything 'jack centered' experience?
aaaahhhh.
and then i'm even more confused... so if the island was just some metaphysical apparition created by Jack or everyone on the plane's mind... what then about the whole back history of the Island--jacob, dharma, etc... why would any of that stuff exist 500-1000s years ago if it was just about JAck?
omg...
just some clarification here... anything. help me my brain still hurts trying to get some sort of resolution, lol. thx.
any1?
Jack died at the end of the series finale. It was after he fell to the ground from his knife wound, where he laid there watching them all leave in the plane. He laid there bleeding out, until he eventually closed his eyes and let go (the show began with jack laying on the ground of the jungle, opening his eyes after regaining conciseness. . . they kinda ended it the same way, but with him closing his eyes).
As for the rest of it, everything you saw on the show really happened. They got in the crash, survived, there really was a "smoke monster," some of them really left the island and came back, Jacob was real, Hurley became the "next Jacob" with Ben as his number two, etc., etc. It was all real. The flashback stories, flash-forward stories, and the "flash-sideways" stories all happened.
Those "flash-sideways" stories we saw during the last season turned out to be a temporary "stage" in the afterlife. Like a stepping stone in between here and "heaven" or whatever you want to think of it as. Time was irrelevant there. As Jack's dad explained, "some of them died before you, and some died long, long after." We should assume that Hurley and Ben went on living for hundreds (thousands?) of years just like Jacob and Richard. And, as we already know, some of them died long before Jack (Shannon and Boone, for example). The "when" part of their death was of no relevance. For all we know, Kate could have gone back home and died of old age several decades later. The whole "flash-sideways" thing was their stepping stone to the afterlife. Where they had to relive the experience again, in an alternate version as if the plane had never crashed. And only when they "met" each other, and ultimately touched each others' lives again, would they remember and move on together.
Hopefully I explained that well. I haven't watched it since the night it aired.

The idea of Frank and his new "roommate" really cracks me up. I wonder how long that will last. I think Frank is the only person on Earth capable of pissing off a dude who's that insanely desperate for a friend.

Besides my LOST re-watch, I've just gotten hooked on "Hell On Wheels" I loved "Deadwood" so this is right up my alley. Awesome cast and cool story concept. I guess it's on its third season now so I got a bit of watching to do.
Just picked up Richard Hell's autobio (I DREAMED I WAS A VERY CLEAN TRAMP) at the library, and then I found this series ...

Good heavens, there's 17 of these. I think I must be searching for distractions in life at this point.
i watched the new wilco set on austin city limits last night.
it was pretty incredible.
Lords of Salem.
It blows.
Just finished watching Lost with the fam, they pretty much are very indifferent about the finale. But at least they don't all think it was all for nothing.
The Infamous Stringdusters on PBS
Just finished the first season of AMERICAN WEED. Like most 'reality' tv, it's edited for emotional triggering, so I expect a couple eye-rolls per episode; but for the most part, the characters are portrayed sympathetically. It's also a nice quick pic of what's going on in Colorado.
So that piqued my interest in WEED WARS, which is the Californian counterpart. I feel like I watched the first episode a few months back and was underwhelmed to the degree that I had no interest in giving it a 2nd chance. Today I watched a mid-season episode and it was pretty good. There does seem to be enough incompetence to go around ... but hey, it's California.

watched this doc on pbs last night about the public health system.
gut wrenching for sure.
very personal topic for me as its basically the hell ive been dealing with the last few years.
anyone you know that doesnt believe there is a need for universal health care in the US should be made to watch it.
of course they are most likely morons and wouldnt care anyway.
season finale of Hell on Wheels
I'm watching Jackie Brown with my roommate (who has never seen it). Love this movie, forgot how awesome it is and how funny Samuel L. Jackson's role is.
I finally decided to check out Battlestar Galactica. I just started about two weeks ago, and now I'm already halfway through the third season. Shit's addictive.

I really don't feel like wasting time with TV that is going to end up sucking. :-P

I tried watching it due to recommendation... Made it to Season 2, and the show sucks. In it's defense it is well made, but its catered for old women of 60+ years of age.

CNN: Special Report
"THE SIXTIES: The British Invasion"

A fun, informative watch. Nice to hear from Paul Shafer and ?uestlove. Tom Hanks? okay. Susanna Hoffs? :?
A little bit of nice, rare footage, too. I found that, overall, it brought up some interesting questions for me: What was it like for American (black) R&B bands and soul/Motown bands to try and tailor their sounds for the pop charts, when those that chart are playing 'their' music? Does the marriage of ecstatic rock and political folk have to end in tour-less seclusion, i.e. Dylan or Brian Wilson?
I had never heard Smokey Robinson & the Miracles sing "Yesterday" before, either. Wow.
"Coming this May, THE SIXTIES will air on CNN with new episodes about other landmark events and extraordinary people which shaped our history and character as Americans – and changed the world."
Louie
My girlfriend recommended this show to me. It's great! If you like dark humor and Louis CK you will love this show! It's so funny, at first I thought it was just Louis CK trying to rip off Seinfeld or something, but just a few episodes in and that was clearly not the case anymore.
Also I finally got around to finishing Breaking Bad. I honestly was kinda underwhelmed by the last 2-3 episodes, and the finalie was... again, underwhelming. Maybe with just how crazy that show got I expected something absolutely insane.

I actually ended up liking the first three seasons. Season three was actually very entertaining. Now I have seemed to lost interest since there is no prison in season 4. Another show bits the dust, at least walking dead is back.
So I've been watching this series on Vimeo called High Maintenance, it loosely revolves around a weed dealer in New York, but it really focuses on his clientele. Height be in an episode for 30 seconds or the whole time and some are funny and some not so much. They're all about 10-15 minutes long which is pretty perfect for this format. Check it out sometime.

I've seen a bunch of those. They're highly watchable. I was surprised how the "Helen" episode actually made for a nice short film.

Started GIRLS (season 1) this weekend. Watched the first 3 episodes and was pretty wow'ed. It was a lot to digest, and it let to a lot of good conversation.
Watched episodes 4-6 last night, and it started to slip away from me a little. Granted, I've never gotten into binge-watching and I know lot of these series have season-wide (sometimes multi-season) plot arcs. But some of the characters went from realistic 'people' to lesser-dimensional plot devices/movers. Sometimes I can totally relate in ways no other shows/movies offer, which is great. Then there's shit that I don't relate to at all and I have to tell myself I guess that's what people do sometimes. If you say so. I'm guessing some of them will be more fleshed out as the season progresses. Lots of fertile social ground getting covered, though, so I'm still stoked to watch more.

VIETNAM in HD
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d6/Vietnam_in_HD_DVD_Cover.jpg)
Their reporting of the Gult of Tonkin incident tipped me off that this would be kinda [pro-'Murica] bullshit, but there's a ton of archival footage and the computer graphics help make sense out of a lot of dense jungle confusion.
There are a ton of celebrity voiceovers, which can be distracting once you recognize them, but they fade in and out with the voices of the real people they are portraying.
Either way, that whole "war" was a clusterfuck and I'm always ready to try wrapping my head around the particulars.

We're really late to the party here, but Dagny and I started watching Hell On Wheels yesterday. We're four episodes deep and I'm really enjoying it.
Just finished up the new season of Transparent. Anyone else watching this?
My only complaint is that 5 hours is way too short. It's such a great show, but having only one or two nights of viewing per year drives me nuts!

Anyone here been watching Horace and Pete? It's Louis CK's new show that he is producing and financing himself. He releases new episodes every Saturday morning on his website. He's able to produce them really quickly, so there's always extremely topical stuff in the dialog. It's also clear that he couldn't care less about rules. Some episodes are an hour-ish, others are a half-hour-ish.
The tone of the show, however, is very consistent. I wouldn't exactly call it a comedy, I guess you can call it a "comedy-drama." Some really dark stuff happens, but the banter is hilarious enough to keep you laughing despite the fact that these are some of the most depressing characters ever.
Anyhow, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Star Wars - A New Hope
After seeing Rogue One yesterday and in honor of Carrie's passing. The one that started it all. 💫
After the stream we put on a couple episodes of BBC's Life, paired with late-70s Herbie Hancock.
Very recommended.
Not an Anne Hathaway fan or anything, but the premise of this flick is fucking awesome and I definitely want to see it:

Roadies Season One (and most likely the only one)
A show that featured real musicians and venues across the country seemed to have so much promise. There are a lot of great ideas in this show...but...it's frigging terrible.

Watched it. Loved it... but it was terrible. Not surprised it was not renewed.
I gave up after ten minutes or so. Even worse than Vinyl.

Showtime's House of Lies
it's not really my thing, but there's a killer bedroom scene with kristen bell during one of the first few episodes...so now i'll probably have to watch the entire series
I heard about this before he set out, I guess he pulled it off.

I just started that show Peaky Blinders. Really enjoying it so far.
Also, I recently watched Hello Ladies. And if anybody has HBO and looking for a comedy. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.
Watching the Seahawks/Pack. Just heard Maze as the outro music before the break. 8-)

Gangs of London on AMC
highly recommend.
I'm in LOVE with McCartney 3,2,1 (on episode 4)
next up: Summer of Soul (because... yes)
Third: All I Can Say (I keep telling myself I'll make time to do this... but i haven't yet.)
then I'm re-watching "Funky Monks" at least twice because I love Rick Rubin after the McCartney thing oh so much more than I did already.
Also... Just finished Loki and Brockmire (terrible ending but the first 2 seasons were so good); super pumped for new Ted Lasso, soon, and Yellowstone (whenever they decide to do that.)
any more suggestions?

Started it the other day. Yeah it really is. Kinda wished it wasn't quite such a quick gloss over of the early years but I guess we have seen it all to death at this point.

I mean, this isn't about those years. This project is entirely about the restoration and compilation of the footage shot during the creation of Let It Be.
I've seen it 1.5 times now. Will probably finish the re-watch this week. I liked it so much that I joined some of my HFPod/Osiris buddies to do a three-part conversation on the show.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is a personal top 10 show, thought it was amazing, and I cried like a baby at the end

Fuckin' YUP.
It's a great show. Especially the second season.
I don't see what's creepy about it. Hasn't Hollywood always showcased high schoolers having sex and doing drugs? Dazed and Confused? American Graffiti? Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
This is just the more realistic, 2022, woke version. Fentanyl is the new weed and grown men raping transexual teenagers is the new high-school puppy-love.
Okay. Never mind. You can continue being afraid for your children.

no, I meant like who is going to watch the show if old people (see above) are too uncomfortable to watch it
probably not best for young kids to watch, or maybe not idk

Oh. lol. Yes - good point.
The proper demographic is 18-35, so Scotty squeaks in there.
Everyone else = creepy old dudes
As for Fast Times, Dazed and Confused etc, those movies came out when we were young, so it was different. And Dazed and Confused never gets past first base anyway.
this show is basically Kids, NOT fast times or dazed and confused, imo

I screened it last year for one of my English 101 sections and they pretty much hated it. Made them too uncomfortable. Only one guy in the room had even heard of Hunter Thompson, and that was because he was the only one who'd seen the film before.

Do kids not do drugs anymore? I remeber liking this movie BEFORE I had even used hard drugs/psychedelics. Just the idea of it all was exciting to me...

oo thx, this looks good!
It's great. First season awesome. Season two is slow. Third and final is awesome.
i'm watching the collapse of Cable TV in real time, lol.
I realize most of you probably don't have Cable anymore, but as someone who gets it for free and generally doesn't spend money on streaming services it is incredible how just this year especially the whole thing is coming undone.
Outside of maybe network channels, all the other mainstay big channels like AMC, TNT , FX etc that actually had original series have basically stopped picking up almost anything. At most they will show a teaser of one episode of something that is on their streaming service.
I just looked up if Snowpiercer was coing back to Tnt for another season and apparently its finished but they pulled it from Cable to shop it elsewhere. It was literally their LAST scripted series.
done.
I've seen it coming for 5 years or more, but its official.
time of death 2023.
RIP channel surfing.
Dang yeah I usually only watch NBA on TNT or ESPN these days but that's through my moms cable account ha. Can't even get local nuggets game on local channels you need to pay extra for altitude network.
Honestly Netflix is starting to decline these days. Series arent what they used to be and getting sick of all these documentaries on random social media celebs.
Last of Us series starts tonight tho!

yeah im excited for LAst of US. Gonna wait til all the eps are out and binge hbo stuff ive missed for a month.
the Cable situation just sucks mostly for my folks.
I wish i had the cash to buy them new tvs and set up subs for streaming and the whole nine, but its just so annoying that they pay $100 for cable that literally has a fraction of the content it did ten years ago.
It's just too much hassle for them to do on their own at their age, and not wanting to change their watching habbits to tailor streaming services etc.
Dark Winds on AMC right now.
recommend.
Really enjoying Winning Time - the Rise of the Lakers Dynasty with John C Reilly on HBO
...NOTHING apparently since Disney's got Spectrum's balls in a vice.
Lost like a dozen channels.
I mean ripping ESPN away right before football season.. man, Disney really ready to put a stake in Cable's heart.
This has so many implications.
