Congrats on being the first on these boards to reach 5,000 posts! You do get a special title for it, but because you a global moderator, nobody gets to see it!!! muwahahaha!!!!! So, if you guys want to see what really happens at 5,000 posts, you better start typing fast, cause we already have 2 people over 3,000 and August is making a serious run at it!
Sorry, but there isn't much of a prize or anything, other than the knowledge that you could have been feeding 5,000 starving children in Darfur with the amount of time you've spent on here...
j/k, we love having you around, so here's to another 5,000!! :beers:
edit: FYI, you hit 5,000 on this post, if my new math is correct:

funny thing about customer service is that SOOOOO many people work in that environment....
now because i've worked that arena, i am way more polite, understanding, and patient with people... but that doesnt seem to be the norm.
you would think that anyone working in cust service would understand and not be a dick... but digress

Honestly though, this whole post whoring thing is getting to be a little ridiculous. What are we playing, King of the Mountain? The setlist games are just that, games. I find the GD game to be quite fun. And what about all the other post padding opportunities that exist here like the "Last Complete Show Listened To" or album, or "Right Now I'm listening to...". Sure valuable insights can be gleaned, especially from the Album thread imo, but for the most part no real commentary goes along with the posts, mine included. I fall victim to my own post whoring episodes, especially when the odometer is getting close to rolling over a big number. But does having a higher post count make a cooler pauger? Its not all setlist games around here anyway. To prove it I crunched some numbers of my own. Starting with the basic statistics at the time of this post:
Total Posts: 83119
Total Members: 1763
Total Posts By top 30 Members: 64758
Percentage of Total Posts By Top 30: 77.9%
Percentage of Membership Owned By top 30: 1.7%
GD Setlist Posts: 1012
PH Setlist Posts: 4291
Total "Post Whoring Setlist Game" posts: 5303
Percentage of "Post Whoring Setlist Game" posts to total: 6.3
The Newb Factor:
I'm drawing a wide generalization here, but I assume that most newbs that never repost do so in the ISO forum.
ISO Forum Posts: 2535
ISO Forum Post Percentage of Total: 3%
Conclusion:
Total Posts: 83119
Total Newb and Setlist Posts: 7840
Percentage Newb and Setlists Posts: 9.4%
Percentage of Total Posts By Top 30: 77.9%
Percentage of Membership Owned By top 30: 1.7%
Of the total posts, 1.7% of the membership is posting something other than fluff posts 68.5% of the time. Pretty damn good considering that we get by without hurling random insults at each other most of the time. It seems to me that statistically we can put this whole post whoring issue behind us.
It all comes down to Karma.

hell yea!!!!!!! b/w this and the new GD releases Im goning to have a shitload of new music to chill to this winter. I hope they give it the works and it comes out sounding as good as "A Live One".
As for the Brooklyn shows, that'll be a nice treat too, unless it has Jay-Z footage (how the hell could anyone cheer for that ?) phish became a back up band for an ignorant minded rapper (why would phish even consider allowing that scumbag on stage with them?). That was by far the low point in phistory, and a waste of 2 songs.

:-D I still say read him before you bash him. His economic theories are way better than his philosophical ones. His, "On Classical Economics" is incredible, and does a wonderful of job of analyzing all economic models (he even takes on the challenge of analyzing Marx and does a wonderful job of arguing for and against socialism).
I skimmed him. While he may have something to add to the global discourse, he had nothing for the conversation at hand, imo.

I'd say "Black Rednecks, White Liberals" deals with the Hip Hop culture, and its origins. He doesn't approach Hip Hop as an art form though (possibly a flaw in the argument), but does do a through job of explaining how the culture developed.
