General Tech Support & Discussion / Re: Dual slot card to single slot?

Before you bust out the hacksaw, take the bracket off and make sure the card fits right without it.

Depending on how the case is set up, altering the bracket might cause some card 'droop' so you might need something to prop it up and keep tension off the connection.

I don't think droop will be an issue....since the card is secured into the case with a screw....its just that damn double width shit....i have the luxury that my card only has one row of connections....the 2nd slot space is just holes for cooling....
Eh, I wouldn't chop it, that extra slot is used for more airflow. You NEED the airflow, these new GPUs are so fucking powerful they need cooling unless you want it to deball the chips and buy a new one earlier than expected. An alternate route would be increasing your case's airflow to compensate. If you have a case with multiple fans on the front this may help the air flow from front to back. But the expansion slot area of the case is usually a dead air spot, meaning the air does not move much. Look into Noctua brand fans, SUPER solid fans, super quiet and powerful.

Not 1, not 2, but 3 people bothered me today about a Steeleye Dan tribute act show in my hometown. I don't want to see or hear a fucking Steeleye Dan tribute act.

So is it a Steeleye Span or a Steely Dan tribute act? Or is it an amalgamation tribute like Dread Zeppelin?

My bad. They fall themselves.Steeleye Span. For real.

That's an English folk act that's been around since the 60s.

They're no Fairport Convention.

Entertainment / Re: Dune thread

I'm with rj on this one. The original movie was great. Not on par with the book, but still good. I'm looking forward tothe new adaptation.

The one down-side to the Lynch version of the movie in my mind is that he turned down doing Return of The Jedi to make Dune. A David Lynch Star Wars would have been insane!

Lynch was never going to make a Star Wars movie. He agreed to Dune never having read the book, and with the stipulation that his next movie would be financed (which would be Blue Velvet). Lynch hated the experience of Dune, felt he never had control of it, and didn't like the end result. Over the years, after becoming a big deal, he was asked by the studio numerous times to oversee a new edit of it, a director's cut, but Lynch turned them down every time, having no interest in revisiting the material. It is what it is, as far as Lynch is concerned.

But yeah, though overall it's not a very good movie, there's a lot of great stuff in there, and a fantastic cast, assuming you ignore Sting in his golden underwear.

I caught it just a couple years ago in a theater. It was fun to see how many future Lynch cast members are in it, and to see all the strange art design, which in retrospect is so very Lynchian. Basically, it's a really cool movie--aside from story and character. I mean it starts with I think close to forty minutes of exposition. Just scene after scene of people reciting history. It's baffling.

Still. Who else but Lynch would have scenes featuring both Jack Nance and Brad Dourif in a big budget sci-fi flick?

The new trailer looks fine, if not a little generic.

A fellow Dutch Hendrix fan wanted to order Live At Woburn from the US branche of Dagger Records. They don't have it in the UK shop. Look at that shipping rate....  I emailed him back to be patient and wait until a copy pops up on Discogs.
