I'm not someone who cares about "bust outs"  All that business on 12-30 left me cold.

This goes both ways. I've seen Demand before and did almost nothing for me then. It would have done near nothing for me had I been in Miami. Tela, on the other hand, is an amazing tune. I've seen it 6 times before, but in Miami it would have been a very welcome surprise. Same with Corrina. It's not just that it's a bustout... It's beautiful!

Yeah, Tela's a pretty tune.  Corrina's ok.  They're not really songs I care about hearing that much though. It was nice for the fans that do however.
fresh back from the mental institution and FEELING FINE!!!!!!!!

everone is ranting about "more type II" etc....

FUCK THAT.....

Bring on the Type IV and Type V!

The reason I got so involved with the boys was the fact that nobody else came close to sounding like they did. Yeah, they had rock songs, and bluegrass, etc....but they played as a group like no one before....They cut a blazing path thru the crap bands with their brand of insane musical abilities.....They jammed rock, but it wasn't quite a rock jam....same with the fUnk, bluegrass, jazz, etc.....but it was DIFFERENT.....NOBODY did type II (sans GD an Co.) till they came along....

I want to see Phish in 2010 do that again.....their 4 insanely musical minds create a new context of music/jamming the like of which no one has ever heard before....

That's what I'd like to see/hear now that Miami is over.
Who's the Marmar? I'm the Marmar!!!

Phish doesn't write beautiful music...the beautiful music happens after the written parts.

<gainesvillegreen> now, if they could get their sound to be as good as the lights, we'd have a band hee-yah!!

Music is what feelings sound like.

As far as all of this is concerned...I did not care much about 8's music.   I heard the shows and was like "this was nice and would have been fun", but that was the extent of how much I liked the shows.  They sounded like the average 3.0 Phish to me with a little bit of awesomeness in the form of Exile (I would have preferred Kid A) thrown in for good measure.  The music was decent, but it didnt' melt my face when I heard it after the fact.  I didn't see a show this fall, and some of the music started to almost blow me away, but I was still a little tepid.  The consistancy was not there.  The show closest to me, Charlottesville I made almost no attempt to get to.  It just wasn't worth it to me.

These four shows in Miami are PHISH shows.  These are the Phish that I started seeing way back when that had the ability to melt your face night after night after night after night.  This is the Phish that even on their worst show I want to silence the haters because the worst Phish show is at least as good as the best _______ show.  Phish is fucking back.  I'm no longer thinking of the band in "3.0" terms.  The band served us correctly in Miami.

I think this whole year is a practice with moments of brilliance (Camden, Hartford, Gorge, Cincy, Msg) but on the whole, the band never fully gelled as a real band until Miami.  I hope all of the members stay healthy and active over the winter/spring, because when they come back next summer, it'll be on like King Kong gettin in a rumble with Donkey Kong over who has the most massive Monkey Dong.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I actually thought the level of improv at Miami is perfect for the time being.  I would like to see them gel and have fun as a unit playing their songs excellently well as opposed to bringing the most intense psychedelic mind melds of all time.  To me every show from Miami pwns Albany so hard.  I'd be fine if the jams took a back seat.  You might disagree, but you're free to start your own band :))

Ser? I'll take the most intense psychedelic mind melts, please.

Yeah, ser.

You need a super solid foundation to get the best type of mind melts.  My problem with a lot of '97 is, sometimes the foundation is not so solid.  In 1994-1995, the foundation was totally fucking solid.  Like I've said before it took 1989-1993 for us to have 1994-1999.  I love Phish's songs and I love it when they play them with fun and gusto.  I wouldn't mind at all if they waited a year or so before they broke out the HUGE JAMS, BRUH.  We saw enough shitty huge jams from 1999-2004 for me to have gotten my fair share of long and wanky improv.

Patience is a virtue.

This is going to be a good productive spring for me now... and I hope it is for everyone else.

Miami was the best :phish: I have seen and
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SUMMER TOUR!

I hope everyone -- and I'm sure they are-- is as excited as I for some amazing shows :)

and matt lets hope for a molson amphitheater show although i would love an Air Canada Center show in the fall.

I've been racking my brains, running through my record collection in my mind to tell you what records are my secret shame and I've decided i have none. I love everything I own and am proud of it. Music should bring joy, not guilt.

this.

I finished listening to Miami earlier this eve., after 28Dec. I was thinking how weak Phish has become.  I did like the Light as show highlight.  29Dec. was a bit of a reprise w/ the interesting Tweezer, a version that reminded me of Big Cypress in that Trey used the same effects he used in the '99 version. 30Dec. featured some interesting moments esp. the jammed out GBOTT w/ Hendrix-esque trill towards the latter half :-o  31Dec. was nothing crazy on an improvisational level but, had some fun moments in Piper imo.  Overall the run was characteristic of most of 3.0/2009: nothing consistently jaw dropping but enough to keep you intrigued as to what the future might hold(see above Mar quote).

fauxpaxfauxreal

Wow.  I never thought I'd say this susep...but if you truly feel this way, I hope Phish continues in a similar vein and you stop going to shows.  I really really like the direction they're leaning in, and I don't want your whacky ideas ruining that direction for me.

The past four shows are exactly the type of Phish I want to see.

This run of shows has converted me into a Phish National Socialist.  To me you are either for the phish or you're against the phish.

Sorry, I think i need to be deprogrammed.

LOL

I'm now the biggest Post Hiatus fluffer ever, but only for Miami.  And, I wasn't even there. 8-)
