Does VLC not play SHN files?

I don't remember ever having a problem playing SHN in VLC before.  But I'm not sure that I have ever tried.  I used to just use COG

Why not upgrade to a more practical format like FLAC?  The benefits of seekability and tagging alone make it a no brainier for me.  Sorry i realize this doesn't actually answer your question.
