WhatstheUse?

What are some of the biggest turning points in the history of Phish?  What shows/events/songs changed the future of Phish, or marked a pivotal point in the bands progress?

Some examples off the top of my head:

-- First show played @ the Paradise in Boston (1989)

-- Page gets his Baby Grand (Spring 93)

-- First show @ Madison Square Garden (12-30-94)

-- The Clifford Ball

-- Big Cypress

-- Vegas 04 (pivotal in the sense that it showed the end was imminent)

-- Summer tour 2010 (Where Phish melts face on a nightly basis again w/ psychedelic, shredadelic, mind-boggling jamz!!!!)  :wtu:

Marmar

-- Colorado 88

-- First musical Costume

-- Gamehoist

-- 1995

-- Phish discovers the Cow Phunk (spring 97)

EDIT TO ADD:

-- Santana '92
Who's the Marmar? I'm the Marmar!!!

Phish doesn't write beautiful music...the beautiful music happens after the written parts.

<gainesvillegreen> now, if they could get their sound to be as good as the lights, we'd have a band hee-yah!!

Music is what feelings sound like.

For better or worse, the Island Tour of 1998 does as well.

Like the mention of the upgrade for Page in Spring 1993 WTU. +k
Dysfunction and itemized lists of people's failures are where it's at.

I think the Island Tour solidified that the groove orientated jamming that flourished in 97 was here to stay

I use records for that and don't have to justify it to my friends.

I'll add:
Great Woods '93 - first time they sold out a large summer amphitheater
Fall '94 - they made a conscious decision to really stretch things out.  This resulted in them being very comfortable with group improvisation, and laid the groundwork for the awe inspiring shows in 1995.

Amy's Farm and Sugarbush 94 were both forerunners to the big campouts in later years.
