it's a great deal.  I'm a seagate guy bit got a similar offer (maybe $10 more).
I have no idea what to do with all these DVDs I have now.

I had to jump on this.

In general, average prices have been $.065/GB for HDs, and $.05/GB for 4GB dvds.  This is $.0461/GB

I hadn't done that math to realize that it is actually still cheaper to burn to dvd's rather than buying HDs. But I like HDs, they take up less space and are easier to navigate than spindles and books and boxes of dvds.

I still burn dvd archives.  Someone should out-math me and post dvd vs hd failure rate stats though.

yeah, but dvds can't have mechanical failure.  And losing 3 TB vs 4.4 GB is steep.

if DVDs are stored, they don't get scratched.  it's the CRC errors that get me.

with so many deals, I have more unused hard drives than I'd like to admit.  they'll be used soon though.

The only problem is when an HD crashes, you lose a lot more than 4 Gb.

Superfreakie

I have around 30 HD and have only had one crash, after I hooked its power cord around my foot and it lept off a desk. Some of my drives are 6 years old and still work fine. Maybe I'm just lucky, but regardless, I will never burn another disc in my life.
