dude... couldn't find the red zinger at any store within 10 miles of my house so I ordered a 6 pack off Amazon.....

still waiting....

My mom wants me to visit her family in Dallas October 5,6,7. As I write this I'm looking at a flight into Dallas on the 5th and out of NOLA on the 14th. Same weekend of Blues and BBQ but I would be in NOLA by myself, with a car from 10/8-10/14.

If I make it through this day without pulling the trig, it will be a miracle.

ETA: As much as I love having Emily with me no matter what I'm doing. We're pretty much due for a NOLA Bro-down.

"...ruminations of the end of empire, what it is like for a society to no longer have the will to pull itself as a whole, as a single entity, forward. It is a recipe for the disenfranchisement of significant portions of the country, for a divorce of one America from the other" -David Simon

Sound about right.  Just a quick look up shows flight for Thursday thru Sunday for under $400. Hmmm........It would also mean skipping the oak mtn > atl >charlotte run though. I need to think about this.

I'd like to point out that ACL Festival is October 12-14 in Austin... a much shorter drive from Dallas than NOLA.

Interesting. Flights to Austin for Thursday thru Sunday are about the same as the NOLA flight for the same dates. Paugtoberfest in Austin at Pie Guys?!

Damn, that's a hell of an idea.... Surely it would be a great time.

But that lineup doesn't excite me all that much. I mean, it's not free is it? Nope, sold out.

Now if GPJr was on there......

Side note: Whenever I do manage to make it to NOLA, I'll be swinging by the Orleans Parish Sheriffs office for the weekly real estate auction.

QuotePreservation Hall Jazz Band Readies 50th Anniversary Box Set

New Orleans legends Preservation Hall Jazz Band have announced the upcoming release of their 50th Anniversary Collection. The 4-CD, 58-track deluxe box set will feature five previously unreleased tracks recorded between the '60s and the '80s, which have been restored after being damaged during Hurricane Katrina. The collection draws from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's 19 albums recorded and released between 1962 and 2010 and also includes tracks from a bonus CD with special guests Andrew Bird, Tom Waits, Pete Seeger and Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket.

The box set will also feature song-by-song annotations by Ben Jaffe, longtime producer of the band and son of founding member Allan Jaffe. Jaffe wrote various personal anecdotes in his notes, with one telling the story of Pete Seeger and grandson Tao's collaboration with the band:

Mr. Seeger was a hero to my parents. He was an inspiration to them, a guiding light, and acted as a steadfast moral gauge. I remember meeting Mr. Seeger for the first time almost 30 years ago late at night, down on the Canal Street wharf on the SpanishPlaza right where the U.S.S. President used to dock. During Jazz Fest, there used to be late night shows on the President. Mr. Seeger was sitting by the dock. He and our Dad exchanged a few niceties. I remember Mr. Seeger putting me on his lap and singing me a lullaby. It felt like being back in the womb. Being at Preservation Hall, playing 'We Shall Overcome' with Mr. Seeger and his grandson Tao, was one of the most beautiful and proudest moments of my life. I think our Dad would have really enjoyed being there that day.

Through the varied collection of songs from throughout the band's long career and Ben Jaffe's annotations, the set offers a comprehensive history of the legendary group and serves as a tribute to the late Allan Jaffe. Details on the collection, which will be available September 25, are below.

Nice. Know what'd make it even better? If it was offered as a vinyl box set!

was thinking the same exact thing. They released that last album on vinyl. Hopefully, they'll do the same here.
