Well, today normally would have been March 1, but since its Leap Day, we have one more day before the madness begins.  In an effort to have things ready to mirror the Paug March Madness tourney with the NCAA tourney, I decided to start now.

I was thinking that an interesting tourney this year would be to match up ALL of Phish's Tours to once and for all decide the ultimate tour in their careers.  Based on the listing from Phish.net there are 68 tours.  (http://phish.net/tour)  I need some help seeding the various tours.  Please PM me your ranking of your top 25 tours.  I'll take the responses, summarize them and use them for the seeds.  I will just randomly assign seeds to the rest.  Seems kind of like the NCAA, right?

Anyways, please submit your ranking by PM to me no later than March 7.  That will give me some time to consolidate and create the bracket.

Let the  begin!!!!

Cool!

Fall 95 by a landslide...

Wouldn't be my number 1 choice, but it's got a good shot.
I've been coming to where I am from the get go

So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul

Oh! That! No, no, no, you're not ready to step into The Court of the Crimson King. At this stage in your training an album like that could turn you into an evil scientist.

Summer 93 will get a #3 seed and lose in the final four.
Just two whiskies, officer.

I'm not sure if I followed this thread correctly, but what guys are saying is that Dave Thomas sold crack in inner-city DC in the mid-80's, right?

:hereitisyousentimentalbastard I think he meant ranking them for the match ups...or maybe you knew that and were just being sarcastic, I couldn't tell.

eta: While I think this is a pretty good idea, I also think you're going to get popular consensus polling results, since most folks have not listened to every phish show ever played, or at least enough of every single tour to vote in a critical manner. Plus, to cite examples, like, check out these shows from this tour and someone responds, yeah, but the way the band developed over this tour makes it better, etc doesn't give people enough time to properly listen and compare.

I think this years tourney should be peoples favorite albums. Like list your top 25 favorite albums of all time, and then we go about ranking them the way we did last year with artists/bands. But that's just my .02  :-P

I think the spreadsheet will suffice for people wanting a taste of each tour.

While I understand your point, the favorite albums is just as challenging.  The results of last year's Band Madness shows that GD and Phish were the winners, but the matchups and upsets are where its at.  I think when you have Summer '93 against Fall '95, the discussion could be great.

I'll file the albums idea away for safe keeping.  We don't necessarily always have to wait until March for the Madness.

I'd say you ask for top 100 (or maybe 50) albums then you use the top xyz amount for the brackets and seeding.  You might have to have a run-off / wildcard though.

Another vote for albums here if it matters.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

Not trying to argue, just when you've got two albums matched up, I can easily re-listen to them both and vote, or if I haven't heard one or either, I can easily grab it or someone can up it or what have you, and make my decision and vote. Or like last years, I could quickly hop over to youtube and listen to tracks by artists or someone could cite a song or two from a band in discussion making it easier to compare and vote.

But when looking at tours, there's no way I could grab and listen to and compare entire tours in the span of just a few days (i.e. the voting period between rounds). While it's a solid idea, I don't think more than a handful of paugers could make true votes based on listening experience of all of Phish's tours.

All I know is, it's your game, and it's March 2nd, and we're still waiting for some brackets
