Just listened to 7-30-97 and while it was great, especially the buttery segues in an out of Cities, it can't match up with the monuMENTAL version that is 12-29.

The Providence Bowie has to be up the up there not only as the best Bowie but one of the best jams of all time.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

I'm going to reserve my official judgment until listening to the matchup (as I am being diligent to do here) but I know already that this is going to be my opinion as well.
Is this still Wombat?

Yep. I listened to 07-30 last week as the picks were coming in and loved the shit out of it. Too bad it got such a tough draw in the first round. But I'll wait to do my head-to-head listen as well (which I think I'll cue up next).

Providence Bowie. No contest.

Just a quick side story. While in AC I think GBL was asking my buddy crazy Dave what his favorite show was. He answered Hartford 10. A few minutes later Gbl finds out Dave's first show was the 12/29 Bowie show. The look on Gavin's face was priceless.

I've yet to hear an ovation like they received after the Providence Bowie. Shit was fun.

That was one of those "something real just went down" sorta moments.

PIE-GUY

Yeah, the band actually took a mid-set bow after that Bowie. Only time they did that? I can't say for sure, but it's the only one I know of.
I've been coming to where I am from the get go
Find that I can groove with the beat when I let go
So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul

I feel like it was with this jam that they realized they could add a 20+ min jam to any song they wanted, not just Tweezer.

It was well deserved.
