Obligatory "what, no Indy show" post...
Wait, wtf?!?!?!?! An Indy show! Hell yeah! :rockout:
And on a Saturday night, no less!!!
Bob costas just dropped the term jauntee on the NFL Pregame show. It was in reference to his hat, but still, there could be tshirts/posters made of his wooden teeth and stupid hat. Paging you know who...

Prolly. Its definitely where darkstar got its start.
Jeff, you drive thousands of miles to see trey stumble through songs all night, yet you have never driven 10 miles to see better music from the jauntee. Be there, mofo.

yeah, martyr's used to have dark star every week on like a monday or a tuesday. it became a pretty big thing with a nice scene, so in the late 90's martyr's became the place for small jambands to break into the city. they definitely supported umphreys a lot early on. they put them on all kinds of bills and were eventually one of the first clubs in chicago to allow them to do their full 2 set show with all their lights and such. i remember seeing them in early 2000 at martyrs and they were already outgrowing it.
More datez!

My friend manages the band Digital Frontier , this livetronica band in NYC they are playing with. Suppose to be a "love" themed show. Jauntee setlist will be tasty.
Frozen Dead Guy Days and the after party will be a blast and some great exposure in that hippy mtn town. Ill be there for sure.
Denver too. :beers:

You're in Jacksonville now? We used to play Fernandina Beach a bit, but I wouldn't exactly say there's a 'scene' there. We would still like to explore FL a bit more- aura/bear creek and all the festivals at that spot have given the music scene some cred. I hear boca raton is one of the best areas for jam stuff... that's far from you though!

Yessir. Shit dude! I always seem to move to where you were about to play more, or (in this case) after you been playing there :hereitisyousentimentalbastard
But I'll catch you guys sometime.
Fernandina is like 30min away.... so just come back, scene or not. I'll be there, I have like 3 friends. It's a start.
I want to comment to say how awesome the track "Dunes" is. Those chords are glorious. Super gooey and melodic and drippy... very enjoyable. Also, you guys should check out the show from last night, because Enjoy The Ride hit a very nice dark, doomy segment with John playing this fantastic bassline to make everything really foreboding and sinister almost. During the early part of the verses, the lights really synergized with the band in a great way; make sure you check the video if you can.
Also, the Renaissance Man was HUGE! That may have been the peakiest I've ever heard that song. The lights were pretty great too during this. It's amazing what having a light show for these guys does to the music and overall vibe!
whenever I win the lottery, I'm earmarking a few $100k so that they can do this properly! ;)
EDIT: Oh man, the Jaunts on Fire from this show!!!! holy crap! That was so great! It hit everything, from murky, watery dank-funk to raging Caton fireballs of shred-peak. PHew..... i need a towel after that!

Unfortunately, I think it's gonna be a late one. We probably start around 11:30/midnight. Don't ask me why they would go that late on a Sunday. In a matter of fact, I'm gonna hit up our manager and see if they can't bump set times forward. I'll let ya know.
Great show tonight at the Mousetrap, and they had Zombie Dust in bottles, so I was super happy. Glad i get to sleep in and have the house to myself tomorrow morning though.

Here's the house video from last night's show.
https://youtu.be/4gjUxXGD7cw?t=1h56m7s
Dudes... the Star Wars Imperial March jam...
I LOL'd
That was the first thing I praised Caton for after the show.
I figured that probably got your attention.
Haha, that one did kinda come out of nowhere! That venue was pretty welcoming for a first Indy show. We'll definitely be back again and again.
This makes me happy. That show was a blast.
Superbummed I couldn't make it to these.
So.... I learned today that the Cincinnati show was a SELL OUT.
I feel like that's a big deal, and needs to be celebrated and acknowledged!
Good times seeing the jauntee in Chicago last night! And always great catching up with mbw and WTU!

Nice shot!
Thanks for coming out dudes! Always good to see you guys. Felt pretty rough about the show last night but whattayagonnado. At least there was a good crowd (to see me screw up at every opportunity possible :wtu:) -- that venue was super awesome though!
See you tonight Gavin!

Just kidding man. It was a good show.
I love when Caton just kneels down and soundchecks his 800 pedals over the course of multiple songs instead of playing.
:-D
Fun show last night! Really glad I came out
Felt like you guys started out strong in the first set
Was bummed when you didn't go full on into simple man though, that's like my favorite song! Haha

I had so much fun Saturday. I had friends and family, some who I hadn't seen in over 10 years, all in one place! What a feeling!

Da

You'd think 'never miss a Sunday show' was universal but, alas...
As strange as it may seem, and perhaps a sign of how low our expectations have dropped for 'gigs like that,' I actually considered Lincoln a tiny success. They gave us a free hotel, a free meal, and paid for our gas from Minneapolis -> Denver. The bar usually doesn't even have music on Sundays (for good reason) but the owner knew us, and really wanted to get our name out in Lincoln.
As a touring band, believe it or not, sometimes a show can be 'successful' w/o anyone there. Its all relative. We didn't exactly gain fans - but we did secure a new market that is a days drive from Colorado. That means, once we live out here and want to tour eastword, we don't have to start EVERY tour $300-400 in the whole after driving for a couple days and staying in hotels. I mean, for reference.... last time on the way out to Colorado, we played Lawrence, KS. That show also had no one there..... but they also paid us nothing and didn't give us anywhere to stay.
So anyways. Lincoln is "cool" with me.

the real question is, was Molly Jane there?
I've always wondered how the sleeping situation works with road warrior bands. I'm sure it tracks with a band's growth. Didn't realize sometimes the venue itself steps in there.

Once you're big enough (we're not) having lodging requirements or a pay-out = to that is a pretty standard part of any band rider/contract.
At our level, it's not common place, but the offer is there maybe 20% of the time. It's also usually location based (ie. New England=NEVER ..... Colorado=Usually/Always in the Mtn. towns..... the Southeast=Sometimes)
We stay stay in as little hotels as possible, for the most part. We usually have a fan or friend or one of you goons or some fan's, friend's aunt's Dog's house to stay at in most cities.
It's old news by now, but just saw the lineup for Peach Fest

Holy shit, what a set. At first, it sounded a little rusty and clunky at the start of JMO, like you guys weren't loose at all.... but then the jam had some meat, and things were going pretty well, and then everything finally SLAMMED together in the middle of that Dog Gone Blues. WOW. And then the rest of the set is just fire-breathing next-dimensional Jaunt madness.
That was fantastic playing. It also really highlights the necessity of the lighting accompaniment.... some of those sections really gelled together into the "4th dimension" and having the music + lights be greater than the sum of their parts.
Nice. We've been working with a light designer that McGrupp originally put us in contact with for this CO tour. He really has been doing a fantastic job of following our musical cues with no prep or rherersal

Yeah dude.... so much of the 2nd half of that set was next-level stuff.... really cohering together into something "more". Something I truthfully don't get from CK5 hardly ever now during jams... dude is so fucking busy with his changes. Your guy is doing it well, elevating the music, and changing along with it and augmenting what's happening with the instruments, allowing distinct moods and environments to happen.
Can't wait to see more.
Also, I'm not sure if he always has it on, but Caton needs to keep that delay pedal turned on for the intro of "Dirty George". That added just enough extra sauce to make it really "get there" for me.

They definitely have grown on me. The bass player is a monster. Guitarist shreds pretty hard too. They do a good job of filling the space for a trio.
playing the 18-minute "Know It All" from 3/4/17 right now, this thing is a monster! I **love** John's walking bassline about 14 minutes in. Only the Jauntee can go from pounding dance rock to space freakouts to walking jazz so fluidly and seamlessly in the span of a few minutes. Even Phish doesn't do that anymore!
Tyler is KILLING this on the organ. And then that build-up at the 15:25 mark... oh yeah. Perfect. Just perfect. Keep up this kind of playing, and you guys will rightfully dominate the way Phish does.
Also of note, I'm looking at the Cervantes setlist, and it's VERY encouraging to me, as a fan, to see you guys be able to throw down such a powerful show with a setlist based largely on new tunes. That is super important as a band, to be able to keep coming up with show-stopping tunes.

I'm way behind on keeping up with the current shows, but you guys have to hear the "Have You Ever" from 2/14/17. https://archive.org/details/jauntee2017-02-14.flac16/2017-02-14d1t09.flac
This jam is so perfect. Relaxed, unhurried, creative... Caton layers some subliminal loops and and Scott totally turns the build-up into a house jam. It's brilliant. I can't get enough of this.

Clearly you're the Michael Jordan of jamband drummers.
Just don't quit to pursue a career in baseball.
Looks like a good show and turnout! Reminds me of the Bluebird show
That looks like a great turnout.
Good lookin' crowd.
I enjoyed the Caton sit-in with Dopapod, too.

I'll be sad one day, too, when you guys no longer play the small places like Stanley's out here.
but on the other hand, watching you guys move and shake into bogger shows just makes me excited

Yep. Enjoyed the Revival link you twittered
Thanks for listening dudes!
It was definitely pretty awesome to finally play to a big crowd at the bowl. Great venue. We unfortunately had a bunch of sound issues (like my f'n monitor completely getting turned off multiple times during our set) but whatevs. It gets weird playing in those bigger rooms.... with the drums on the side like that, it puts me really close to the main line array speakers. I know this sounds weird.... but everything was SO loud up there, that I couldn't really hear my own drums. Or like.... I could hear my drums more through the house speakers than I could right in front of me. Which is weird.
Anyways. Wah wah wah, right? Here's some more uploads from tour >>

Always fun hanging with the extended Paug crew. Great to see SLS at a Jauntee show. I'm already looking forward to the next go around.

Fun fact!
All four of us (as well as all 3 members of the other band) dosed at the Rollinsville show. It was at this random, townie bar/barn in a tiny town in the mountains, so, there of course were only like 7 people in the audience.... 2 of which were our manager and Michelle... a couple random fans, and this 17 year old kid who drove 4 hours to get there lol.
So anyways, this was the first time all 4 of us in the current line up had played a show tripping together and the first time I had dosed at a show since.... man, probably 2011 when we were still having parties in our loft space. That will also likely be the last time I do that. Playing drums on acid is haaaaaarrrrrrrdddd. It's very physical... and that was weird to me. And the whole time constraint thing.... like..... we hhaaaavvve to play for an hour and a half? but.... I wannnnaa breeaaakk.... can I go outside and smoke weed? No? Shit! This is hard!
So. I'm gonna stick to dosing at Phish shows. I have way less responsibilites there. Cool story huh?
How was the belly up?

Dude. Have you been there before?
It was one of the nicest rooms we've ever played. Sound was top notch, both on stage and in the audience. The lighting/projection set-up they had was top-notch. And with the way they have the tiered seating set up, there literally isn't a bad seat in the house. Would play again!

Yeah, it's funny that the guys haven't posted a thing about that show on Facebook.... was Aug correct with his setlist from that night? I feel like he was joking with the JFJ inclusion and no other "staple" songs.
But yeah, that Pigs is absolutely fantastic. So glad they gave Caton the solo at the end. I wasn't ready for that middle jam to end haha.
Clearly the highlight of the Dopapod show

Yeah, that happened. Ho hum.
I'm so glad I knew it was coming, as I had drifted off backstage by that point in dopapod's first set, and knew I had to fet back.
I'm still simply blown away by the fact those guys can pull that off without playing it together beforehand. Just one of the many highlights from that evening...
i mean, it's really not the most complicated of songs. There's really only a handful of different parts, but still haha. I wish the bass was just a tad more intense during the end of the jam because that part is so iconic to me, on the studio version. Roger's basslines are *perfect*.
But yeah, that was damn incredible. You guys are very lucky. Also, Dopapod got SO GOOD. Good for them.

Not sure who sent me one of these, but thank you so much!! It was waiting on my porch when I got home today. I love our little community! :beers:
The return address just says 'PAUG'.
edit to add: You know what I love almost as much as our community... a good mystery/puzzle. I used my best sleuthing skills to figure out that pcr3 sent me the poster. Thanks, man!!!
That's awesome. I didn't even get one lol.

Ask and ye shall receive. :beers:
Also, don't be fooled by the fact that I asked if anyone wanted one. Mr. C did some legit sleuthing with the google and the paug to figure it out. I thought I'd covered my tracks, but I left a trail of breadcrumbs that I had forgotten about...

Sadly, no topless girls this time. But the band was incredible and had probably the biggest crowd yet. At peak, during the end of the first set.... at leeeast 40 people. It was a good crowd. All raging. So many girls too. It was beautiful.
Show was well-played. Very different sets. First set was all glorious hose-y peaking songs with lots of inventive play. Caton, John, and Tyler had a little female help for the evening, lets say. Crowd was eating it up. Wait til you hear this "I Foreign Eye" because holy fuck, it got SO weird. Flutterby to cap the set was great, perfect placement.
This was the first time I didn't keep a setlist on my phone because Tyler recorded it... and i regret not doing that now, because I'm struggling to remember what else was played. 2nd set was.... out there. Suuuuuuuper out there. Spaced out and tweaked as you can get. It was interesting to watch because any time a thread would catch, they'd play it for like, 8 bars.... just enough to peak it once, and then Caton fucking smashes it to smithereens, and deconstructs it again, forcing them to find another thread. Before The Storm -> Hey Pocky Way -> Before The Storm had to be like, 35 mins. Another space jam led into When The Love Is which was great. The set ended with Old Thompson -> One Too Many which was righteous. I have some video of the ending with all the kids dancing. It was beautiful.
Also..... an interesting thing happened after the show, which Scott got to witness. I don't know if it's appropriate to post about in here though.
Spill the beans! What was your last interaction with that chick about?!
Fun night. Literally nowhere gets down as collectively hard as Green Mtn. College. I'd say a solid 90% of the crowd didn't stop dancing for the entirety of the show! And yeah.... had to be at least 60/40 chicks...

Haha..... wellllllllllll........ i have an account at this place called Fetlife, which is like an adult-themed social media website. Some people use it for.... interesting.... things.... but I use it ostensibly as a dating-site alternative. Because why not? Some months ago I randomly got a message from some girl in Vermont, and I responded back and never heard anything and kinda forgot about it (I check this thing maybe like, once every 2-3 months if that).
So, this girl had been dancing next to me the whole night.... pretty cute, really into the music. When the show immediately ended, I was sitting on a chair and she comes over to me and is like "Hey i just wanted to tell you it was wonderful watching you dance all night, you're so into the music, and you have beautiful hair" or something to that effect. Her name turned out to be Krista, we exchanged pleasantries and went on our ways.
Fast forward to the end of load-out, and this girl comes RUNNING back into the hall. She's all super out of breath, and comes up to me and is like "Hey... this is going to be so crazy.... but.... I have to ask you a question" and i'm like "Uhhhhh okay haha, maybe i have an answer?" So she pulls me aside and is like.... all worked up and she's like "I literally just ran back from my house to see if you were still here." She looks at me very intently and in between pants she's like "Does Ocean 86 mean anything to you" and at first I was like "uhhh what?" and didn't really get what she was talking about, but then it clicked and I was like "waaaaittttt... are youuuu!?"
Anyway, turns out it was the girl who had messaged me haha. So we talk a bit and she was like "so... would you be into coming back up here and getting to know each other?" kinda thing and I was like "yeah dude totally!"
So we had a great little chat and she asked for a hug before we parted ways, and in my post-show brain-melt I didn't even think to exchange numbers. But I told her I'd message her when I got home, which I did, so we'll see what happens! Throughout she was like "I don't usually creep on someone's page but you have such beautiful hair!" lol.
Side note, I learned a $162 lesson in "catch your breath before you drive home". I didn't smoke or drink anything during the show, but after I said my goodbyes and I got into my car, as soon as I sat down I was like "ughhhhh I don't feel right....." All of the dancing and not eating enough caught up with me and my brain was a little unwound, and i got a little confused with my headlights and ended up driving out onto the main road with them off. When I sat down, it almost felt like I'd taken a bunch of amphetamines because my jaw was super tight and it was hard to catch my breath... just total exhaustion. So I'm trying to get my food situated, get my GPS going, and I'm doing all this while pulling out of the area where the venue is. Literally as soon as i pull out onto the main road in front of the college, a freaking cop passes me and turns his lights on and all of a sudden I realize i'd turned my headlights off after I pulled out of my parking spot and I'm like 'FUCK.... awww man god damit". So he pulls me over, assumes I'm wasted, I stammer out "nah I'm just super exhausted from dancing like crazy for hours". We talk and he ends up writing me a ticket for "illumination required".
Didn't know you could get tickets for that; this happened to me once before when i was younger in New York and the cop was just like "Don't be an idiot". But this guy was all righteous about me possibly striking kids crossing the street, which.... sure.... I get that. Fair point. But you couldn't just let me go with a warning? I'm obviously not intoxicated, I'm from out of town... it's late... I just want to go home.
He was kind of indignant that I didn't spend the night there. He's like "what are you doing... it's 1am... you couldn't just stay here?"
Sooooo yeah. Kinda funny night as far as timing goes, with running into that girl, and how if I'd waited even 30 more seconds to pull out of my spot, I wouldn't have passed the cop and this wouldn't have happened. Oh well haha. Always something!
Dude! That sucks about the ticket..... but the chick story more than makes up for it!
Man, what are the chances of that? I was watching the interaction go down from afar, an like you said, she literally came running for you! :sbw:
That cop knew what he was talking about, you should have definitely been spending the night there.

Yeahhhhh, I'm a fucking idiot. I don't know what happened, I was just too spent and my brain wasn't working at all. It was so weird because as soon as I sat in my seat I was like "uhhhhh, i don't feel good" haha. Pretty sure my body was just super depleted from dancing and not having eaten enough. And OF COURSE the first car that I see, the 2.9 seconds after I pull out from that side street that leads to the hall, it's a cop. Not some other dude who flashes at me to be like "dude, put your fucking lights on". Oh well, lesson learned!

Yeahhhhhhh I knowwwwww. I don't know why I didn't go for that. It was right there in my head too... and I'm pretty sure she would have been down. Ugh. She hasn't responded to my Fetlife message either, which is odd. I told her I'd write her back when I got home, which I did... and SHE was the one who ran back for ME, so you'd think she'd be super eager to hear from me. I don't get that.
This is the 2nd time I've bungled this sort of thing now... there's this girl at my bank who I've had like a flirty thing going with for a while, and a couple weeks ago I asked her if she'd be into seeing the Magic Beans with me but it was too late for her that night cuz she had to work the next day super early, so i was like "well... what if we just hung out and got drinks or something, would you be into that?" and she's like 'yeahhh!" and so i gave her my number, but didn't go for the full exchange. And then radio silence.
I'm sabotaging myself here guys. Halp.

Show sounds great. Post-show?
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING.

Haha yeah man, I'm not awkward at all but my problem is accommodating changing plans. In my head the entire night was "Go to show -> Drive home -> work on schoolwork the next day". Since I've given up drugs/alcohol, I find myself having some trouble with changing plans. I'm not really sure why. Like, it was all laid out in my head, and it made sense, and I felt good about it. I like sticking to my plan... it helps ease my anxiety. I know where I'm going, and what I'm supposed to do. I don't really play things by ear anymore. that makes me uncomfortable. I need to know the plan. When shit comes up, it takes me a beat to reformulate and get comfortable with changing parameters. It's weird. So like... if I had just taken a minute with her, and thought about it more... I'd have been like "well... lets just go hang out now? whatdya say?" Because then it could have been "See show -> hang out with girl -> Drive home early afternoon -> still do schoolwork" or something.
Or maybe I'm just getting old. haha. How's that for a deep dive into my head  :rockout: :music:

I saw the Indy show is finally on the Archive, but with the first song cut. Is that due to the weird mic issue you had at the beginning of the set, or was there an issue with the recording as well?
So I usually just breeze through tours and keep moving on, but the last 4 Midwest shows have been going non stop!!
March 15, 16, 17 & 18th have some SICK shit!

Thanks man! We usually have pretty responsive crowds in Louisville & Columbus so it's easier to let loose.
St. Louis, however, pretty much just sucks all around... so we lucked out there.
