Ahh... listening to a ton of 94 lately (obviously), I hardily approve of this encore choice. I love this tune!!
7/15/94 Julius **cough**
This Julius delivered
After what I thought was a okay first set. That set two was on fire. The Ghost > Paug was a actual segue. And was sick

I hate it.
I started going to the 1st house south of the GW entrance. He charges about $30, has grills, porta - potties, lets you drink and do whatever you want, friendly guy, good crowd, no hassle getting out.
the parking lot does suck. I now use the $40 pay lot, and I'm out in less than 10 minutes every time.
For me, Set 1 highlights were Fuego and Stash. Set 2 was great, with Simple, Ghost > Weekapaug, and Harry Hood as the clear highlights.

I have quite a bit to say about this show. But I am currently barely able to type and trying to abide by the 24 hour rule. So they totally nailed Waiting All Night. Thank you :sbw: for the captainship.
I had fun tonight. :phish:
So other than getting out, everyone enjoyed the show? That's good to hear. Can't wait for SPAC!
The Fuego songs sound well rehearsed.
It's about time they redeemed themselves at Great Woods. They owed it to us and they delivered. Huge.
Really loved the simple and the ghost->Paug. Harry hood was otherworldly.

Beginning of WAN was a little rough, mostly fish and the backing vocals, but I thought Trey really came through at the end. His vocals were great from what I remember..
Also, Ghost through the end of the show was really strong, particularly the Hood.
GREAT tour opener imo
Second-jammiest Hood of this era. So that's a good sign.

Downloading now, gonna start with the 2nd set.
During the ghost when Ithey started to do the Paug drum beat. I was like. No way theyactually nailed a segue. Instead of half assing it.
And this hood was insane. Great second set! Will relisten to set one, was in a bad mood because of car problems. Radiator hose blew off so car kept over heating. Got in kinda late. Meh.
After one time through, I enjoyed the show.
Skimming back through highlights now.
During the LST, mbw accurately spotted the similarity between the Tahoe Tweezer and this Hood. That same jam also popped up in the Hollywood Hood.
Fortunately, no Woo!

honestly I love waiting all night and I thought it was a good placement in the second set. Actually excited to hear that one live.
Still like the 12/31/10 ghost licks in the ghost jam
I just gave Ghost through Hood a listen while getting baked in the batcave. That Hood was the real deal sickness!! Just some great playing all around. I'm excited for where this summer could go.

just finished set 1...stash, fuego were awesome. Gonna try and get some work done before I fire up set two (for productivity's sake).
I'm listening to this show, now. I'm in the middle of Stash, digging the jam. Good stuff, so far. Can't wait to hear set two. Did they add the second jam back in Mike's? Fish did address that in his recent radio interview.

nope they didnt.
I'm liking halfway to the moon as well. solid track with not much of a jam but some really nice lines from trey.
Like it was mentioned last night, I'm digging how the new material works in the sets. Maybe it's because they based some of those tracks off their favorite jams from previous tours, so it just works that they'd fit back in so easily once structured into song format. Something to consider.
Solid show! Had a blast.
They were feeling it last night!
some nice bits here and there. though i think they just piped in the album version of Waiting All Night.
highlight is Hood. beautiful version. the one real keeper from this show.

Just listened to that. Great Mike's Groove, with the nice Ghost>Paug seg. Listening to Hood. Starts dirty, and Trey's tone early is good. I'm in the jam, and like what I hear. It's been 10 yrs, since they (minus Mike) called it quits. I like where they are, as a band.
I felt good about that Hood.TM
enjoying the 1st set so far
Fish is playing really well. IMO he makes Fuego.
btw, as I was listening to Fuego something was missing. I couldn't put my finger on it. But then......
no whale call
I would have been very happy with this show. Liking the new tunes, Stash is a beast, the Hood delivers big time and they all seem to be pretty on point with their playing. Sure I would love Trey to have the nimble fingers he once had but I find the others make up for it imo.
the word of the day was fuego: hot weather, hot women, hot music, hot everything. mehead and I were cooking in the lot literally.
really good show, first time in a long time I've felt 100% satisfied with a Phish show.
Stash was nice, I could hear Mike modulating early in the jam. As mentioned above Hood was indeed the show highlight, really nice jamming.
I liked that Trey was less rock peak, listening more and giving Page more room to shine(Julius among other examples).
There were various teases and quotes by Trey as well, always a good sign. Check out his quote of a transition riff of the Allman's Whipping Post at 4:21 in Birds.
All in all, a very good night of Phish.
1) New Tunes sound good. I actually like them better live than the polished turd that is the album. All the "fancy" effects on the vocals seem very anti-phish to me. As much as I complain about their ability to create good harmonies. They weren't bad this show.
2) It's taking 5 years, but Stealing Time is actually a decent opener. Kinda a slow pace, and we get whale'd out the gate, but at the same time, for the 3.0 tunes the whale sound works and I expect it. Overall, new tunes, and the other 3.0 tunes sound good
3) I must not be listening to the same stash. Same shit it's been since 3/6/09. They still can't resolve the D minor to peak the jam. It meanders less, and isn't as whale-y or trite in being atonal as previous 3.0 versions. It's not piercing on my ears like many other versions. But it is still a throw away version to me
4) Overall first set was kinda boring to me. Songs were played fine. But no flow. And it seemed pretty disjointed at times. Fuego is just Frankenstein for me, it just sounds like Reba in that they glued all these vastly different sections together, only it's 3.0 compositions, so it sounds more like Genesis with vagina's rather than King Crimson with pythons. Not a bad thing, it's just an adjustment for these ears.
5) re: Pieguy. I know, Phish in 3.0 finally took a lesson from Panic and got a god damn segue right. I shit my pants in disbelief. Pretty much Mike's though Paug has some smooth transitions. The Ghost -> Paug segue is pretty good. Only beef, the ghost jam had just hit a syncopation groove that is interesting (and reminiscent of 12/31/10 and based off 6/23/00's Aminor -> Gmajor vamp) and the reigns are pulled in to segue (gotta give props for the modulation out of A major into D major for Weekapaug). And for the love of God, Trey needs to learn to count quarter notes. They still can't hit the halftime break down and pause in the composition section. It's easy. I know it's a minor detail, but it is crucial to the explosion that should happen to open up the jam section of Ghost.
6) Hood gets very "Tahoe Tweezer-y." It's interesting, but not new territory. Perhaps this ambient section is the new plinko?
7) I didn't listen to Julius, I would have bounced to get a $12 heady Topper on lot and a balloon.
Overall, it's a lot better of a tour opener than
7/7/03
6/17/04
5/31/09
6/11/10
6/7/12
7/3/13
5/27/11 might be better. I'd have to go back and listen. I think they actually sound mildly cohesive. I never heard a moment of Trey being lost. His fingers sound slightly better. There was actually diversity in his ability to lay out lead and rhythm. I normally hate what he does in 3.0 Ghosts, but I found myself tapping a long. I won't lie. I still wish to hear a tape one day where everything he plays culminates in me pulling my hair out and mumbling over, and over "how and where in the fuck did that happen?" Rest of the band sounded fine. I thought Fish had a little rust.
Defining difference between this, and say Summer '09 with the Joy material, is it actually sounds like Phish is pumped about playing these songs, where as summer and fall '09 would have periods of Phish morphing into the Treigh band. And the energy just wasn't there. Then again I'd fucking hate having to play My Problem Right There and all the HOAHB tunes when perfectly good music is getting dusty on a shelf too. Only other concern I have is the complacency that could or can occur from reducing the catalog on tour. I always enjoyed having covers and new covers unfold, it's part of the Phish experience, and a vital one at that. And if this tour is that Fuego heavy, while I don't doubt the playing is better, it may literally become the same record every night.
I'm looking forward to what they do with this SPAC run.
Good thoughts and thanks for sharing.
Yes, they said they were going to cut back on the covers this summer, but it's hard to say they've limited their catalogue after one show. Remember, never trust a prankster. Also, I doubt I'd be surprised if they're going to play 1/2 of the Fuego material every night.

THAT guy, but seriously, the last good July 4th show was 7/4/00
7/4/10 - pretty god damn awful
7/4/12 - incredibly god damn awful

the thing about the 7/4/00 show was the top highlights was the Jibboo and most people were sick of that song by that time. but when you come out and play, everyone is happy.
That whole second set was money
Quote
Set 2: Gotta Jibboo -> Saw It Again -> Magilla > Twist > Slave to the Traffic Light
But yes, the Jibboo was def the highlight. I remember people freaking out saying it was the first time Mike had broken from the standard bass line in that song.
Sorry for deviating so much from the topic at hand.
That Jiboo is fantastic. But I'm also a fan boy of them taking any tune for a ride. I relistened to 7/4/10 a few weeks back. My first thought three songs in, "god damn we did a lot of drugs that day."

Man's got a point.
Something very alive and fluid about this show............for better or worse, they truly sound like a band again. Even Trey sounds more fluid in spite of a lack of any fluid technique since 2000.
Might be my favorite Weekapaug since the first hiatus. It just jumps.
Stash, Hood, Mike's Groove, Ghost. All very cool.
Summer seems promising.
Gave this a spin finally last night on the long drive to see my family. First off, my expectations were beyond exceeded, they sounded like they were 10 shows into tour rather than an opener. Really enjoyed Fuego and the rest of the new material, placement didn't suck either. Even birds seemed to pop. I'd say this is as strong as an opener can get these days with the obvious highlights being already mentioned. The paug segue was beyond refreshing and I won't beat a dead milkman over this Hood, but it was so good. Stash I just loved Trey's tone, really I don't have any complaints about this show, bravo guys, my appetite is now sufficiently wet.
Had a great time with susep. It was hot as fuck out.
As soon as I heard those opening notes of Stealing Time I was all :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
Flashbacks (and no, not good ones) of GW '09 started to hit me. Fuego put a smile back on my face though. Getting 4 Fuego tunes in the first set was fully expected and I didn't mind at all. Just like wtu said in an earlier post, placement for some of these new songs are going to be crucial. Wingsuit as the set closer did not work at all. Stash and Fuego were clearly the highlights of the set. I am a sucka for BOAF and really liked this showing up in this spot so it was all good for me. I really liked the fact that it was not a standard 3.0 first set. We survived without a Wolfman's, Bitch, Moma - you know what I mean.
Like everyone else, I was wondering if we were going to get our 2nd jam as they opened the second set w/ Mike's. Simple was very rough in spots but I was glad to get it over a Hydrogen or some other awful Joy tune. I thought the placement for Waiting worked to a point. I can see this one moving around a bit in the rotation.I was pumped for Ghost and thought the transition into Paug was pretty sweet. With it hovering around 10:30 as Paug ended, I was really hoping for a YEM to close the set. While that obviously didn't happen, the Great Woods Hood did. Cavern seemed like a lock to close the set and I called the Julius as the encore.
Overall, I had a real nice time at this show. Loved how we avoided the typical 3.0 tour opener first set garbo, we got ZERO covers (true to Trey's statements in that RS interview) - NIIIICE, no Possum, really dug the Fuego tunes live and we got sweet versions of Stash and Hood.
Needless to say, I was a happy camper driving home the next day. I would prefer to be at a :phish: show than not being at a :phish: show.

I was reminiscing about that day last night. One of my favorite acid experiences ever. Walking out of that show to fireworks all around was incredible. Ramz was def locked into a serious drug collection and we put a considerable dent in it. :beers:

That Jiboo is fantastic. But I'm also a fan boy of them taking any tune for a ride. I relistened to 7/4/10 a few weeks back. My first thought three songs in, "god damn we did a lot of drugs that day."

It's true. I spilled a vial on my leg. Scott was eating strips like they were double mint gum in a cougar's snatch. I'm pretty sure Heath drained all of Verizon's kegs, and Miami Phish had a look like we had all just gang fucked his little sister. It was a pretty mild day of debauchery.
That was fun. Pretty sure that's the most acid I've ever eaten and probably the highest I've ever been... And ever will be. Conductor'd
I was reminiscing about that day last night. One of my favorite acid experiences ever. Walking out of that show to fireworks all around was incredible. Ramz was def locked into a serious drug collection and we put a considerable dent in it. :beers:
I just picture this guy when you say that...

That Ghost > Paug is so good...
Giving this a listen now. It's kind of blowing my mind right now that I can go to phishtracks and listen to last night's show right now. That will never be lost on me.
It is pretty fucking awesome how far we have come.
