Looking forward to hearing this one. Especially the second set/encore.

Also, I wanted to draw attention to some key posts of the LST:

Ill be there tomorrow and Wednesday. I've for some reason seen alumni and camel walk a decent number. Good show, good shOw
Music was made. :music:
Epic win. The legacy grows.
:phish:
A 13 minute Undermind!?!?! ::drools::
The look of this show makes me even more excited for Wednesday!!!
Do you think they preplanned the second set, or at least some forethought? All the songs with the exception of undermined all deal with the elements ( sand, dirt, waves, steam, fire, light).
Really looking forward to hearing this

all one word song titles in the 2nd set as well!
Listened to the Undermind on the ride into work this morning. Definitely brought the  with that!
I pulled a Keller and just got home. What an amazing experience all around, thanks again to MBW for the ticket and thanks to JPhishman, WTU and Pie-Guy for being awesome, though I was in the row behind you all.
Such great energy in that place, and it was definitely going both ways. Got my first Alumni (which everybody simultaneously flipped out during the opening of), the second set had some of the best group improv of recent years, and oh yeah, the encore was 40 MINUTES LONG.
This show looks like fire, I hope it lives up to the hype I'm feeling. Can't wait to give it a listen.

Alumni, Light, waves, and undermind were all highlights for me. Energy was SOOOOO incredibly high at this venue!

I think that big green balloon that kept ending up onstage the whole first set also said Alumni, so I can't take 100% credit. Still. We certainly won at phish last night!

Same - if he falls off the wagon I doubt it would be on stage at a sold out show.
Besides, wouldn't the music be better if that were the case?
I Don't think Trey would go back to drugs.

That's not what I'm implying at all, surprised you took me that way. He's more likely to relapse than stay clean, my point is that i think it's ridiculous to assume he'd do something like that ON STAGE. LOL
Well, holy fuck. God damn.
Someone needs to tape Marmar's reaction to the setlist, and then video tape him listening to the show, so that we can blackmail him with bountiful footage of him holy-shitting to 3.0 Phish.
Anyway.... seems they're building some epic momentum for the 2nd hiatus return shows. UIC -> Colorado -> 2012 Armaggedon Hampton Return Run:
Hampton 12/21/12
Set I: You Enjoy Myself* -> Tweezer > Runaway Jim* -> WUDMTF* -> Glide* -> Vocal Jam -> Maze, Mike's Song -> Fee -> Piper -> I Am Hydrogen > Glide# > Reba
Set 2: Character Zero > ACDC Bag* -> Jam -> Whats The Use? -> Seven Below* -> My Left Toe -> Jam -> Runaway Jim -> Weekapaug Groove
Encore: Trey speech@, Joy > Character Zero, Spread It Round, Friday > Show of Life
* - unfinished
% - dissolves following 2nd chorus, after the bridge begins, before Trey's lead melody
# - (pause)--> ending "Gliiiiiiiide"
@ - "We ran a few minutes past the curfew, so we're gonna stick around a bit..."
morning headlines: Phish destroys fanbase (not the good way)!!!!! Cancels rest of run due to lack of audience!!!!
I didn't mean to start speculation on Trey's drug use, I probably shouldn't have said anything.
FTR, I still think he is clean..... it was just funny that redrum mentioned cocaine and my friends had mentioned the same thing. I agree, going from sober to doing drugs right on stage seems unlikely.

so the general consensus is that this was a pretty sick show.... mmppfff
guess my ears have changed. granted i've only listened to the sand thus far, but i've already heard enough cringe worthy trey moments to stop listen.
i plan to solider on, but shit, trey sucks. he's pulled it together as the jam has gone on, but i honestly don't think he is actually listening to anyone but himself.

this light isn't any better. am i missing something here? did i lose my ear for phish?
i just think the "jams" sound like absolute horse shit.

I like the show.
The "jams" are definitely 3.0.
There hasn't been anything close to the effortless and fresh-sounding connectivity that crushed venue after venue from pre-hiatus.
Haven't heard much else from the rest of this leg (lol) other than the "highlights."
ok, finally! this waves is actually very entertaining! can't wait for the undermind
I agree on both counts. The jams got just loud but when you're there, it's totally the h34t. There wasn't a ton of quality but it was made up in what at least seemed like effort. Its just not as tight. I think slowing down would help. Check out a black eyed Katy and go that speed for a moma dance. It wasn't without highlights at all. The song selection IMO was fantastic and the sets had good flow. I heard a few highlights from fish and gordo threw in some bombs. There was also a chord change at some point that blew me away. Maybe a series of changes. Either way. It's almost time for more.
yes, this 2nd set has really picked up steam (pun intended) as it has gone on. this undermind is pretty damn good
ok, after taking in all of the 2nd, set i stand a bit corrected!
there was a collective amount of time, say 5-10 minutes, worth of absolute shit coming from trey, but otherwise the set was pretty smokin. luckily the shit came at the beginning of the set (first 2-4 min of the sand jam and the latter part of light).
but after the dirt, the rest just smoked. waves was very well done, and the band was finally united in jam, and the undermind was $. loved the bombs mike was dropping just before they went into the mellow "theremin" jam, so silky.
also not usually a fire fan, but it fit, smoked, and was a perfect way to end the set. well done overall

all I can say is that set 2 is a very nice surprise.
did anyone notice the date (or like me, are you trying to put that out of your mind)?
HOLY OMGGGGG THIS UNDERMIND!!!!!
seriously, the setlist needs to read: Waves -> Undermind -> JAM -> Steam.
that outro jam.... oh my god. OH MY GOD. Phish can do that. melodic glistening joy-grooving conteplationary relaxation.
If you watch the video, theres a portion when the camera is in front of Mike during the outro jam, and theres a point when Trey gets the solo over the progression together, and Page gets to the theremin, and Mike cracks this awesome shit-eating grin. Like, he's laughing at how good they're playing. Its fucking awesome.

I didn't even think about it until I read that, thanks a lot
Coming back to it, the last few minutes of the Undermind are definitely one of the best parts of the show. I thought Trey must be quoting another song at the time, but no, it was just that melodic of a jam. The theremin was a really nice touch, too.
i actually preferred the earlier section of the undermind jam, just a great groovy jam.
also i didn't like that the transition from the groove into the spacey/ambient/theremin jam wasn't even a transition. they didn't even try. :(
basically they killed off the groove, let it die down to nothing, and started up the theremin jam.
still, all things considered, a very nice and very welcome jam.
Let's just pretend this show ended with Silent in the Morning.
15Aug.2011 - set II
Sand - solid jam to begin, ever present Mike, Trey sounding more on then in previous tours, interesting contrast these straight forward Sand jams compared to their earlier, younger loop laced brethren, nice subtle key shift, Trey w/ some nice sustain and economy, yeah baby, this is similar to the Trey of old, holding bends for the sustain before dropping back into wild flourishes, nice transition into a subtle x space, Trey unrelenting, nice key bombs by Page, No Quarter esque Page, Mike dropping Sand proper, Page raging the clav, nice swing by Trey, industrial wall/siren, nirvana esque undercurrents, whale call yells, Phish! into
Light - nice transition, love Fish in this jam, strong, active drumming, Mike on melodic point, nice dual lines by Trey/Page, nice B3 action by Page, Page quick in his arsenal, Trey trying his McLaughlin best, Mike pulling the groove down, Trey still not wanting to resolve, Stash like jam, Trey reaching, hypnotic Fish, nice rain by Page, how deep is it?, ascending progression by Trey, Fish still holding it together underneath, Trey switches over to chords, more dissonant space, Trey sounding preety lost whereas before he was much more fluid in their free jam spaces, interesting little jam/march before Trey pulls the momentum into
Dirt - nc
Waves - mellow jam out of last vocal, cool effect by Mike, the Shapiro effect, Trey looking to hook up his metal clank/riff, Mike hooks up which springboards Trey into lead action, Character Zero esque jam!, Zack Wylde Trey, again Mike providing the template, Foxey Lady Trey, solid last 1 minute = 3.0 hallmark into
Undermind - love that Trey continues to sing and maintain the previous dark space of Waves, Summer '97 Trey lead effect, juicy Page on the clav, Page pushing himself and the jam, Fish stepping it up, collective gallop, Party Time like beat, kick drum jam > again subtle Trey on rhythm, more gallop, lead horse Mike, Trey lost in an industrial haze, Page adding subtle filler, Mike stepping it up big time, Trey resorts to rhythm underneath Mike's furious lead/anchor, great Page, sweet collective jam here, slight consonance vibe, they push it out in front, drifting in its ripples, purple hues, trippy ambient/alien chant jam, Trey teasing something or is that just a tripped out variation of the Undermind melody?, Pink Floyd esque vocal chants, more ambient/alien thrust into
Steam - nice landing off previous jam(s), straight ahead jam, trippy last 30 esc. into
Fire - nc
E
Camel Walk - nc
Guyute - nc
Horse/Silent - nc
Hood - I'm sure people were shitting ala Augusta Reba, nice variation of something as they open the jam, again Trey on the clank?, Mike leading the melodic charge, where is Trey? drops in subtly, thumping Mike(which can sometimes be a deterance in Hood waters), Trey hitting all of the right Hood cues, looking for something, Fish taking cue, great mix btw, Trey building, split open and Mike!, Trey resorting to a half filled bag of tricks, trills his way out of trouble, Trey breaking through nicely into the ionosphere, not really a cohesive peak, they all know how to get there, as long as their holding on to each other it seems to work, you can feel ok about this Hood.
Good to hear the boys trying to push new ground but ultimately in most spaces they sound like a more refined version of themselves not able, or barely able to escape the very concept they are presenting improvisationaly speaking. Sand had a few highlights. Light was interesting in that Trey seemed to really struggle in their free moments, they sounded better/more cohesive when he laid off his clank and let Mike lead, in short, Trey is incapable of leading improvisational Phish. Waves was ok setting up a nice foundation and transition for Undermind = superb version w/ great Mike led jamming.
I was pretty happy overall with the second set of this show. The beauty at the end of Undermind is simply one of the reasons I love Phish. The jam was pretty great, and I was already extremely impressed, but when they brought the ending in, I really felt it clicking. Lots of other goodness in this set, and I gotta say that it confused the Hell out of me. If they played like this every night (or any where close).. oh the possibilities.
This Waves is great!

Not sure I understand any of the above words... ("explosionating?")...
but I'm pumped for tonight. This was a special show... and, yes, Heath and I did meet Fish the night before and, yes, I did request Alumni Blues after much egging on from Fish to request
something. You will see that Alumni was played because someone wrote it on a huge balloon that kept making its way to the stage... definitely had nothing to do with me, but still a really cool moment.
Also, Fish made me make an anti-request that he absolutely honored. You will notice there was no Sample in a Jar played this entire UIC run. You're all welcome.
One of gbl's favorite memories of this run was meeting me, right?

Not sure I understand any of the above words... ("explosionating?")...
but I'm pumped for tonight. This was a special show... and, yes, Heath and I did meet Fish the night before and, yes, I did request Alumni Blues after much egging on from Fish to request something.
How could you not anti-request Fuckerpants?!?
Two reasons:
1. I would have called it Fuckerpants to his face which I felt weird about.
2. At the time Sample was my most seen song by a long shot and I just kinda hate. Not as much as I hate Fuckerpants, of course... or velveeta cheese.

How are you ever going to effect meaningful change if you won't say Fuckerpants to Jon Fishman?
Up there with FYF for the best Undermind ever.
This is a pretty good show.

For sure. At some point I had no idea what song it was, and just assumed it was still Waves
...was this Undermind jam the one that someone synced up to clips from some 70s hippie-dippy sci-fi movie & posted to YouTube shortly after the show?
B/c that jam owns.

Good chance that was a nickname he had back in the day, he'd be totally confused.
