The Academy really dropped the ball leaving leaving Revolutionary Road out of the big awards.  It still got 3, but deserved more.

I thought Miracle At St. Anna would get some technical awards, but it was snubbed too.

Dark Knight will win most if it's nominations I suspect.

Rev. Road- probably because it came out so late?

Dark Knight- do you think Ledger's death will have anything to do with him winning supporting actor?

1. I think the Academy liked The Reader more and didn't want to give Kate multiple nominations

2. Yes, because it's impossible to ignore.

strange, because i heard her character is just totally dry in The Reader, and she looks a lot more interesting in Revolutionary Road.  i'll likely see both eventually, but just repeating the reviews i've gotten from some pretty reliable moviegoers.

as usual, the best movie of the year--the wrestler-- is ignored for picture/director.

dark knight, too. no picture, director or screenplay? ouch.

and seriously-- benjamin's curious buttons?
i think this explains why the academy and no one else liked it so much:

I don't know.  Maybe I need to watch it again, but I didn't think it deserved to be nominated for any of those.

nope.  Just Ledger and all the production stuff

It's very hard to make a critically acclaimed blockbuster, I think that's why most critics were surprised it didn't get nominated in the big awards.

I'm still pissed Revolutionary Road won't win Best Picture.

One more comment,

The fact that Benjamin Button got nominated for ANYTHING outside of the technical awards is complete BS.  That movie is shit.

The idea sounds interesting.  Does the movie just end up being ghey?

Me too. And that Leo didn't get nominated, I thought he was great.
I haven't seen Benjamin Button, but everyone I know that has seen it were very unimpressed and thought it was too long and kind of boring, so I've lost interest in seeing it...I suppose I should before giving an opinion on its nominations, but I've gotten the impression that it doesn't really deserve all those nominations, especially over Revolutionary Road.
I still need to see a lot of the nominated films, but I'm glad that Sean Penn and Milk got recognized, but I'm sure it won't end up winning anything.
The Academy Awards have just frustrated me the last several years. But I guess how you experience a film is pretty subjective.

Benjamin Button borrows way to heavily from Forest Gump to be taken seriously.  The "old man" years of the film are awkward and hard to watch, and by the time it's Brad Pitt the character hasn't really developed enough - and he's ridiculously good looking, making it difficult to relate to him.

My buddy and I were just laughing at how pathetic the film was towards the end.

Also, having Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchette in the same film isn't really a good idea - I got the two women confused at points.

I actually wouldn't be surprised at all if Penn wins. He was great in that role, and, if history is helpful, Seymour-Hoffman won for Capote. From what I understand though, all the best actor nominees had very strong performances.
